I'd never ever start a relationship out as a long distance deal. Odds are seriously not in your favor...and I haven't reached the point where I feel that desperate. (not everyone is desperate who considers LD relationships...I know) All of the natural/great 'get to know someone' scenarios are really limited when the other person is a few hundred miles away. I'm all about spontaneous trips, visits, etc etc. and they are simply improbable when dealing with someone far away.
If I was with someone for 8-10months, loved everything about them and for some reason one of us had to move somewhere for a while....sure I'd stick in there. With the millions of people in the Philly metro, I see no reason to chase someone from Santa Monica who I 'met' on an internet forum or in Vegas on vacation.
