"What do you think? Forbes is a pretty influential mag for corporate druids."
If my dept.(most folks are in their 20s and 30s and a fair share are from somewhere other than Philly) is any indication, I think their rating for us is probably true. Good news for us! |

I talk to young people visiting from New York and other places, and they all think Philly is great. Sure, they're not looking at the "whole" city, but who does? When you say "New York," do you think about the South Bronx or the Empire State Building? An energetic new mayor combined with Philly leadership in Harrisburg and the new Democratic majority in Congress is only going to make it better. I find if I don't read the newspaper or read this forum, just walk the streets and actually talk to people, I always feel pretty great about Philly. Hmm. |

Note that Philly also made Forbes' list of "most resilent US real estate markets."
So, Forbes' top ten resilient real estate market, top 10 for young professionals, Men's Journal "best downtown," and Food & Wine's "Great Food City" (written by the magazine's editor, no less, whom I know slightly and is a world-travelled Park Avenue princess and no dummy) -- all in one year. That's not even over. The murder rate is horrific, and the city could certainly be cleaner. But these things are major. I know everyone is going to say that's just PR bs, but I promise you that these things make a difference. The negative view of the city is for suckers. |

Funny you should mention them in the same breath: I used to live in Chicago and Philly has always reminded me of it politically (socially too in some ways), except that the Chicago machine is a much bigger juggernaut.

If the mayor doesn't like you there; then you might as well move out.
