Default Are you a Metrosexual?

New Breed of Men: Metrosexuals
http://channels.netscape.com/ns/cele...s/metrosexuals

Quote:
Metrosexual: (noun) Of or pertaining to a straight, urban male who is eager to embrace and even show off his feminine side, especially when it comes to expensive haircuts, designer suits, and $40 face cream.

And thanks to a certain type of male celebrity (read: David Beckham, Justin Timberlake, and Ben Affleck), it's now cool for a man to own 43 pairs of Bruno Magli shoes, wear moisturizer, and paint his nails. At least, that's what The New York Times and a handful of papers around the globe say.

The metrosexual guy is not gay. He's "just gay enough," opines the Dublin Daily. He can take real pride in his appearance. He can go shopping with his gal pals and help them mix and match their outfits and accessories. He can stop at the Clinique counter and purchase products--for himself. But unlike years past, he can do all this and still be considered manly. THAT is what the metrosexual revolution is all about.

Here's another way to look at it: When it comes to good grooming, the straight man is catching up to the gay man. Writes Dublin Daily reporter Frances Winston of metrosexuals, "They've embraced all the stereotypical qualities of homosexuality that make them a more groomed and well-rounded individual without 'changing sides.'"
What do you think of this new classification? Are you a metrosexual?

I think it's a pretty funny and clever term to use.

Am I metrosexual? Hardly. I care about how I look, but I don't spend loads of time or money on it. When I go clothes shopping, I'm going for comfortable, not stylish.

In fact, I go out of my way to make sure I don't get clothing that's covered with the designer's logo. I may buy a Gap or Express Men shirt, but the only way you'd know it is by looking at the tag inside the collar.

def not though i used the soap i bought for my girlfriend at Philadelphia Soap (1216 Locust Tue 11am - 7pm Wed - Thu 11am - 8pm Fri - Sat 11am - 9pm Sun 12am - 5pm ) and felt cleaner than i ever felt using the cheap commercial soap i had been using. i now pay double the price but think it's worth it. however, i still got o harry's at 1324 Locust for my $10 haircuts. i own four pairs of choes and consuider this a luxury and any more a bit "excessive".

I read this the other day and posted on my site.

To a certain extent, I fit this. I don't wear moisturizer or paint my nails, but I do love shoes. ALthougt, I do not like shopping. I'm quick. In and out in no time. I know what I need or want and if I do go shopping without specific things in mind, I know within 10 min. or less if a store has anything I'm interested in. I refuse to spend hours in one store, like many women I know can. I currently have about 15 pairs of shoes, plus 2 pair of sneakers and 3 sandals/flip flops. It could be worse.

Do you know any men who wear make-up? I had heard about this being more popular in Europe, but not here...yet. How do you feel about that?

Make up and nails is a bit too far. I think women want a guy who is presentable but retains his masculinity.

No female wants her friends to say, "I wasn't sure but is your boyfriend wearing foundation?"

But I do like shopping, unlike zogby, I'm not as into shoes, but I do like good ones. I probably have 10 pairs in total 2 black, 1 brown, 1 dressy sandal, 2 adidas type sandals, 2 pairs of sneaks, and a few other pairs I hardly ever wear.

My big thing with shopping is finding sales. I shop online a lot at bluefly.com and bananarepublic.com because they both have good deals on good clothes, and their return policies are good.

When I feel like recklessly spending money shopping I usually head to walnut street and hit up kenneth cole or something, but that's rare b/c the prices are usually out of my league.

Have you checked out H&M yet? Great deals on great clothes. I do most of my shopping there, Ross's, daffey's and stores like that. I'm usually a bargin hunter, but like Wil, I too somtimes get the urge to blow a couple hundred on Walnut, which is really easy.

Treat yourself to custom shirts or a suit made by a tailor. I did that for my guy one year. He had pants where I could tell he HAD a butt for the first time. He wears his comfy baggy clothes like a uniform otherwise. Same grey/khaki/black/navy stuff all the time. Now, when he has to put on a suit, it's custom, it shows, and there is a custom shirt and a decent tie to go with it.

He would shoot me before he would let me put makeup on him.

We've been in hot tubs a hundred times, but he will only suffer me to wash his hair and put lotion on him if I call him Mr. Heffner and tell him the twins will be over shortly.

Preview of that new TV show, "Queer Eye for Straight Guy" on some morning show today... I think you are going to see a lot more metrosexual men when they find out how good a facial feels.

I'll admit it. I've been to toppers, but not for a facial.
