Default Cosby Remarks at NAACP gala dinner

I am surprised that I didn't see anything on here about the comments Bill Cosby made the other day. What does everyone think about what he said?

Quote:
"Ladies and gentlemen, the lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal," he said. "These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids -- $500 sneakers for what? And won't spend $200 for 'Hooked on Phonics'" to improve their children's reading and speech. Of the disproportionate number of blacks in prison, Cosby had this to say: "These are not political criminals. These are people going around stealing Coca-Cola. People getting shot in the back of the head over a piece of pound cake, and then we run out and we are outraged, saying, 'The cops shouldn't have shot him.' What in the hell was he doing with the pound cake in his hand?"

I agree. Also, Cosby apparently went further, criticizing parents and schools for allowing kids to use the language badly - hip hop, ebonics, etc. while failing to recognize that kids will have to speak well to get ahead in this world.

I know that there were some silly wails about the poetry of the streets, etc. but too many folks just seem to ignore Cosby's words.

I am not familar with the quote you are mentioning. However I have heard him speak at my Wife's and my brother-in-law's graduations. Fantastic and inspiring words.

Cosby made those remarks last Monday at a NAACP gala dinner celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education. Apparently he left NAACP President Mfume and others in the audience stunned.

They should've been embarassed for ignoring the facts.

Kind of like the dumb comments Hillary Clinton made about Indians at the local 7-11, the liberal media doesn't want to print Cosby's comments because they go against liberal thought. This is a perfect example of the media keeping us in the dark about so many things.

earlier this week, 'radio times' on whyy devoted an entire hour to discussing cosby's comments (from both angles) -- and whyy/npr are always being slammed for being too liberal. can't speak for the coverage elsewhere, but i don't feel like it was completely ignored.

Yes, pardon my prior email. I have heard nothing about Cosby's remarks, until this morning. It's all over CNN right now. They're having some kind of discussion with various people about it.

You've gotta be kidding. This story's been all over the media for the past couple of days.

I was listening to Y100 on Monday morning and they were talking about it, which is where I first heard it. They had a bunch of people calling in who agreed with Cosby and were saying that the "lower economic class" see's all these stars on tv, movies, music video's who uses incorrect lanquage and have all the bling bling. Yet, when a rapper like Jay-Z or Puffy are dealing in business, which the public does not see, you can be sure that they speak proper English and that these guys are intelligent business men who work hard and are educated. Cosby also made another statement after it was all over the news how he wanted his comments to be a "call to action." (I don't have a link but if I have time today I will look for it)
