CITY YEAR is now Hiring 17-24 year olds for September!
Do you know a 17 to 24 year old who wants to serve our community while earning money for college? Are there good kids in your district who want to make a difference? Have you recently talked to an aspiring young leader who wants to improve the quality of life for kids in our neighborhoods? If so, you can do our city a great service by letting this young person know about City Year. Based on the idea of Martin Luther King’s ‘Beloved Community’, City Year is a nationwide, not-for-profit volunteer youth service organization devoted to developing young civic leaders and improving the lives of children in our communities through in-school and after-school tutoring programs. City Year not only provides 17-24 year olds with the opportunity to mentor children and run service projects, but also provides them with leadership training and brings them into a leadership network connecting an array of powerful supporters in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. To top it off, City Year pays a weekly living stipend of $165 per week and awards each of its corps members with money for college at the end of ten months of service. Thus, as a City Year Corps member, a young person advances their professional career goals while performing service that positively impacts the lives of Philadelphia school children. Please help us get the word out about the City Year employment opportunity to parents, guardians and local organizations. We offer an Information Session and first-round screening interviews for those interested in joining us. These sessions are by appointment only, so please call to setup a date/time at (267) 386-7035. To learn more about City Year, please visit us online at www.cityyear.org/philadelphia <http://www.cityyear.org/philadelphia>. Our headquarters is on the second floor of the American Red Cross Building, located on the corner of 23rd and Chestnut Streets. We thank you for your support and look forward to working together with you to help make our city a great place to live. Best Regards, Lawrence Lawrence J. Polanski Director of Recruitment City Year Greater Philadelphia lpolanski@cityyear.org "Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don't have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don't have to know Einstein's "Theory of Relativity" to serve. You don't have to know the Second Theory of Thermal Dynamics in Physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love, and you can be that servant." Excerpted from "The Drum Major Instinct", a sermon by Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., 1968 City Year Greater Philadelphia is currently accepting applications for full-time Corps Members positions starting September 2003. Limited spaces are available - apply soon! Please check out www.cityyear.org to download an application or call (267) 386-7035 for more information.
