If you are a single chick/dude in Philadelphia, do you think it's best to live in center city to meet people (opposite sex), or is living in the suburbs, or even other Philadelphia neighborhoods ok too?
I guess I'd like to meet people like myself, meaning degree, cool job, not into bars, etc. I'm questioning the suburbs in a way, because one of my friends owned a small single family home in Bucks County, and the married women in the area didn't like her very much for some reason. I think Center City has some cool organizations for personal interests/hobbies, but I haven't done enough research yet to find anything. bunni |

Was your friend sleeping with their husbands? Just kidding. What town in Bucks County? There are some areas that are just snooty to begin with - Newtown comes to mind. Living in Bucks, I have to say that it's VERY family oriented. People either come here with families or planning on starting one very soon. The singles scene flocks to the city, New Hope or Trenton on the weekends.
I definitely think Philadelphia offers more ways to get involved socially to meet new people. And with that naturally comes more chances to meet someone who meets your 'cool job' standards. ![]() The suburbs shut down at 9pm and that's one of the most disturbing things to me.

I tend to agree that the city, simply because its concentration of people, has more ways to meet others than in the suburbs.
But, it's not simple in either location. There are bars everywhere - if that's where you go to meet people. And, despite what WebGuy sez, they don't close at 9:00. Some that I know in Glenside and Jenkintown even stay open past midnight! But, I'm not sure any bar is really a great place to meet people, once you're past a certain age (are you bunni?) There are civic, church, and other groups throughout the region - these are probably not bad places to meet people since you have "pre-screened" them by interest. I'm basically a city folk - having lived in many of them for more years than most of you have been alive. But, I also know some of the suburbs and see people living "quite normal" lives under such bad conditions. |

I should have said my suburb shuts down around 9.
Yes, the bars are open until 2am - and during the weekend, that's usually where you'll find me shooting foos and drinking with friends. But generally, cars and people disappear after 9. There aren't that many people at the bars and even fewer in the under 30 crowd. I think it was Brooke who mentioned the convenience of drinking and not having to worry about driving, something I miss from my college days and moving to the city will fix. Even so, I doubt I'll meet Miss Right at a bar. ![]()

I think I will stay in the city as well after having read your posts. I was kind of leery about buying a car anyway, since I can save about $400 a month in insurance, gas, and parking fees. :rolling_: single bun |

I think that ol' Happybunni added some material to my statement when she added my quote:
I am not now, nor have I ever been, a girl in my 20's. I drink and have no desire to hook up with a man who does not - or a man, at all, for that matter. In all candor, if I had been a 20 year old girl, I would have been one of the ugliest creatures you would have ever seen. |

happy, I do drink, don't smoke (used to though) and agree, chances are slim you'll meet someone worthwhile in a bar. For some reason, even though there are two perfectly good people with a lot in common at a bar, they are not likely to find each other. However, I don't date anyone that doesn't drink at all. They tend to die sooner. |
