Default Tenant rights??

What happens when you rent from an owner in a condo building and a month later condo association decides to tear up the place (hallways, landings etc.) and the so called luxury place you moved in to starts looking like Beirut??
Does anyone know if there is a way to fight this get some the rent paid back?

The association probably knew of these repairs ahead of time, as they probably had the owners pay an asessment for it. Your landlord should have disclosed it to you prior to signing the lease agreement. You should reread your lease agreement for language relating to repairs to common areas. Then, see an atty. An hour of their time is worth getting money back in your rent.

You could call the tenants action group at 215-575-0700. They probably can give you some advice.

thanks for the replys...I'd come accross that number and called it recently but it's disconnected. I talked to a couple of people and an atty, and apparently since I paid this guy upfront I'm pretty much screwed. Lesson learned never pay a landlord upfront for your lease to make a deal!!!!

Im not an attorney, but I would expect that a known fact like that should be written in the lease.

The tenants action group no longer exists.

Try the Tenant Union Representative Network at 215.940.3900 instead.
