I moved from out of state 1 month ago and can't find a teaching job. I graduated with a 4 year degree and my Pennsylvania certification has been sent in. I have 3 years of experience after college. I can't find a job. I am certified K-3 and am living in Old City, but I have a car. I have applied to the Philly Schools and they say they have my resume and will get back to me soon (there are still openings). Please let me know if anyone knows of any openings. I am ok with charter, private, religious, public. Thanks for any help you can give! Stephanie

When I first applied to Philly I was 288 on their waiting list. I went up in late August to see if there was a chance I might be hired before the school year was out. I figured I might get in near the end of the year if I was lucky. By early Oct. they were calling me up to take a permanent job. That many people had come and quit within the month of Sept. So the moral is, don't give up yet. You may get called alot sooner than you think.
You could always sub while you're waiting. That might help you to check out schools you're interested in and prove yourself to the administration at the same time. Good luck. |

Philly schools having your resume won't get you far. Did you actually fill out an application? Please, do it ASAP! If you get on the eligible list, then you might get a call but you need to be on that list which entails the whole application process. They may never call you if they just have your resume. And if you get a slot you don't like, start planning how to get a new school. With such limited seniority, your best bet will be to research those schools that have site selection (available in the spring) and send your resumes to them. Lack of seniority is not a huge barrier to being site selected. My school has hired new graduates this way. Good luck.
