Default Variety would be the spice of Old City

Yup, we've got quite a few bars in OC, and more than our fair share of restaurants. And we've got more restaurants on the way (but not bars as far as I can tell, TG). The thing is, the restaurants seem to be the same as the ones we've already got--serving salads with fruit and cheese, and chicken, fish or pork chop dishes with some kind of compote or vinaigrette. We also have enough places that serve pizza and hoagies, and diner food.

What I would really like to see opening up are "ethnic" type places, like Ethiopian, or Thai, maybe. More Mexican and kabobs would be a bonus, too. In DC, there is Marvelous Market--a kind of a gourmet market/sandwich/takeout type place. Something like that would be great for Old City (Fork Etc. is a somewhat similar idea).

OK but you guys have two of probably 3 Afghan restaurants in the mid-Atlantic on one block. That's not bad.

Also in the ethnic category - the $2 Tuesday deal at Konak - the Turkish place on the same block as the Painted Bride is an amazing bargain.

Kabul is pretty good in OC. Would be nice if there was something like Meskerrem (or however you spell it) in Adam's Morgan which is a similar area to OC.
