Default Garbage

I actually saw city employees going thru public trash cans to find the people that continue to fill them with household garbage. It's about time since the one near my house gets emptied at 1 am and by noon the next day it's overflowing with pizza and beer boxes. As I type this trash is being piled next to it.

If you are so offended they why don't you turn in the neighbors that are breaking the rules?

I'm guessing it's because the OP has more important things to do all day than be the trash police.

The largest problem with all this is the overflowing trash ends up in the three surrounding parking lots and the street. The second is it's a way to beat the recycling program.

Why don't we have covered garbage cans? That would make it somewhat harder to dump household trash, and prevent some trash from flying away too.

By the way, what happened to Street's initiative to get sponsored furniture in Center City (new bus shelters, trash cans, benches)?

That's a good question.

I believe the furniture deal was killed at the 11th hour by Nutter - something about no-bid, very expensive, and not benefitting the City. Or at least that is what I think I read in the Inquirer or Daily News.

Once they are finished, send them down Passyunk Ave! It took no time at all for three new neighborhood trash cans to become regular dumping grounds for people - so much so that the normal-walking-down-the-street-and-want-to-throw -away-this-wrapper/can/tissue-type trash doesn't fit and is balanced precariously on top to be easily blown away!

And smaller openings to the cans don't deter the a$@holes who do this - they either ram their bags in through that hole or just leave the bag in the general vicinity of the trashcan.

Sorry about the rant. Glad to hear that somewhere something might be getting done about it!

If the police were not so lazy they would start citing people that dump garbage.

Whats the deal with dumping garbage? Whats the benefit about it? I have thrown at TONS of garbage after parties/cleaning and never got a problem from the city. Why do these people use the public containers when our own city will come and pick it right up from them?
