Hello all, first time poster here. I live in Churchview Condos and my window looks out at Market street from 2nd all the way down to the river. I love my view except for the eyesore that is the overgrown weeds and who knows what else that is between the subway stop and the parking lot on the northeast corner of 2nd and market. Does anyone know what dept. or who in the city to contact to clean it up. My building had a outdoor cleanup the other day but our property doesn't extend that far. (Of course I don't think I'd have the guts to jump in there now anyway.)
It has the potential to be a very pretty small garden/flower area but now it is overgrown with weeds, trash, and rats. My building had a outdoor cleanup the other day but our property doesn't extend that far. Of course I don't think I'd have the guts to jump in there now anyway. Any help/suggestions is appreciated. |

I think MLW1877 is referring to the garden area right next to the SEPTA/Market Frankford overhang. I walked by there the other night and two rats scurried across my path and into that garden. I know I live in a city with lots of means for rats to survive but it still gives me the creeps when I see them.
I wonder if the company that runs/owns the parking lot owns that garden too. Might not be a bad idea to ask one of the parking attendants - although asking as if it's a problem might just get you an "I don't know" answer even if they do know. And thanks for the outdoor cleanup your building had the other day MLW1877. I walk that path every morning to and from work and I really appreciate the effort people put into sprucing it up each Spring. It looks really nice. |

Plowe- you are exactly right, that is the area I'm referring to. (I've been meaning to take a picture to post but just haven't gotten around to it.)
Nobody seems to know who's property it is. Septa:We don't even know who to contact there. The parking lot: They are no help. We've gotten nowhere with them about putting up new lights to replace the ones they knocked down let alone discuss gardening with them. However, they did clean up a bit a few weeks ago and didn't touch this area so I figure it's not theirs. Thanks for acknowledging the cleanup work. We hope to keep it up and put in those little solar lights too. Unfortunately, people stole some last year. |
