PHILADELPHIA - The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Philadelphia was defaced sometime late Friday night or Saturday, according to the maintenance supervisor. Someone destroyed wreaths and ripped out flags, the memorial's maintenance supervisor said.

NBC 10 found the remains of one wreath lying on the ground and saw flowers ripped out and thrown on the ground.

The memorial is located at Front and Spruce streets.

It usually happens over the Memorial Day weekend. I say "usually" since it's happened more than once. I used to wonder why they didn't watch the thing over that time period to make sure it didn't happen again. Guess the vandal hit early this year. Somebody has issues.

My statement earlier was in relation to hearing about people who wait until cemetaries are ready to close and then grab up flowers on the graves to take home to mom.


I missed the part about the ripped up flags though, thats really pathetic. Even if you hated the vietnam war, its over 30 years later, let them rest in peace.

The men on the wall did not start the war and most were drafted to go.

I'll give this thread a day before a protracted argument over Vietnam breaks out.

DISGRACE..........Most likely these bone heads didn't even know what they were destroying . Total focking A$S holes.

Does anyone know who is in charge of this land? Is it a federal Park Service property or city property? Just curious so that I could write a letter to the proper dept. in an attempt to get some guards back.
