More galleries have been having their openings the Thursday before First Friday so only the art lovers show up.

hmmmm...is First Friday to be a celebration of art or Mardi Gras? These suggestions make it sound like Fat Tuesday's or Girls Gone Wild should be a sponsor.

I know that Wexler gallery does it as well as the gallery across the street from Mode Moderne

Most of the 2nd St galleries between Market and Arch doing Thursdays as well. Makes sense for them, and its fun for us-nice crowd.

I didn't chime in, but as a resident, FF has become an annoyance more than anything else. Drunks (more than usual...FF seems to attract an underage crowd) peeing on the street, in our doorways, blocking street, etc. FF was fun when we first got here 3 yrs ago...downhill since. Maybe its us

I've exhibited in first friday(albeit many moons ago) and have attended the event. I cannot think of one time that I've taken a drink from a gallery. Restaurants and bars before and after attending the galleries? Hell yeah.

Maybe I'm not the norm, but have the galleries considered joining together and just not serving alcohol? People will still come to see the art and if they want to drink then visit one of the many establishments available in OC. It won't solve the world's ills, but I think it would definitely send a message to the cheapskates(who are usually the problem) that First Friday is no longer a free ride for those with champagne tastes on less than a beer budget.
