My wife and I both have to drive to work. I don't really like it and there's no way around it. I'd be glad to get rid of my car if I could - it's expensive to maintain and just one more thing I have to concern myself with. I even agree there are some people who have cars who don't really need them.
The point is, if they remove 29 parking spots, it will just make a bad parking situation worse. There doesn't even appear to be any legitimate reason for it to happen, so why be for it? Even if there are 30 jerks who feel they need to drive 4 blocks to work (I apologize if there is someone who has a legitimate reason for this - I'm not talking about you), it probably won't make a single one of them "see the light". They'll just park somewhere else and it'll make it harder for the majority of us who really need those spots. |

Apparently the 3 spots on 5th street right off of Vine would be removed too because the trucks are having problems turning on to 5 th from Vine without hitting the tunnel railing.
PS mpennsky went to city hall to raise hell and I'm going to talk to him tomorrow about it. |

I can see why they would want to use those two sections of Vine. One being if I truck went down 4th st pass Callowhill the next street it could turn to get back north would be Market st... And lets look at the area effected: ![]() From 3rd to 4th: ![]() And from 4th to 5th: ![]() Now, Google Maps isn't accurate about cars parking, but it is about parking lots and no parking zones and looking at that street, it has alot of both...Hell I see one car parked in a no parking zone(Hint it's on the north side between 4th and 5th)

Tractor trailers are only on the street for two reasons. one they are lost or afraid to go under the bridge and two to deliver to the William Macmillan Co. The parking lot on the bottom is my lot and is fully rented. The lot above mine is private for the shoe wholesaler, there is no parking in that lot after 6:30pm.
The bottom shows the place in question (Vine and Lawrence) a tractor trailer has to back down Lawrence street and wedge itself between the building and the side walk across the street. PS the car in the no parking zone is the owners of the house and garage it's in front of. |

I think I might have gotten thru to them about this. Parked cars aren't the problem or in the way, street lights, street signs, fire hydrants and sidewalks are. I wonder if they will remove them ?
. But they still don't see the problem of trying to fit an 80' tractor trailer in a 54' space at night. |

Everyone forgot about this map:
![]() I certainly empathize with your situation, but many are complaining about trucks when they moved next to blocks of G-2 zoned industrial parcels. There is nothing "illegal" about receiving or distributing shipments at any hour by these properly zoned businesses. The fact that the business is "a place that has 6 employees ( 4 don't even live in this state)" is about as disingenuous as the adverse argument of "use the bus". Both inane arguments are specific to the whims of the debater rather than reality 101. 6 employees supply chicken to 10's of thousands of customers. Meanwhile, if anyone wants to figure out a way for us to give up our car without forcing my wife to take a 1 hour bus and train commute, then walk three miles down a major highway instead of driving for 20minutes each way, I'd love to hear it from the treehuggers union. Both sides have gotten a little wacky in their arguments. They should just put up no parking signs near the corners where trucks tend to scrape and hit cars upon in-turns. There is no reason to get rid of all parking. If residents are so inflamed, they should go to their councilman and ask for signs to prohibit trucks from going down the street. Since its so close to G-2 land I guarantee that it won't happen, but it would be a good bargaining chip to come towards a compromise. |
