Hi,
Still settling in here, both in Philly and in Old City. Can someone recommend a good place for Chinese delivery? I'm sure there are tons of great places, esp in Chinatown, but what's the best? And what should I avoid? ![]() Thanks for the advice... Elizabeth |

Based on recs from the Queen Village/Bella Vista forum, we've been ordering from Golden Empress:

We've ordered from Szechuan Tasty House - 215-925-2839, Chinatown - and No. 1 China - 215-271-8982, South Street. Both are decent. No. 1 China is more along the lines of what I expect from Americanized takeout/delivery Chinese food - which is sometimes just what we're looking for. They also have combo plates (entre, rice, egg roll).

When I lived in Society Hill I used to order from Szechuan China Royal on Walnut, between 7th and 8th, which prepared good, standard dishes. Don't remember the particulars or know the status now, as I haven't ordered from there in years. Assuming it's there, I'd say it's worth trying.

Pagoda most definitely delivers; it's fine, overall, especially the noodle dishes.
Better is Szechuan Tasty House, which can be really terrific: thing is, like a lot of places in Chinatown, there's a long menu with a lot of mediocre stuff (e.g. beef with broccoli) on it, and a few dishes that are really good. My recommendations for STH are: ma po tofu twice-cooked pork dumplings with spicy sauce shredded duck garlic pork and, oh hell, just read Philadining's post about it and do what he says. Dude won't steer you wrong. |
