SHCA couldn't get a majority of votes to pass the motion last night. The only hope at this point is really for City Council to change the zoning on this site. Alot of people claim (myself included) that it is a very vocal minority that are opposed to this project. As we all know, it is human nature to speak out when you are opposed to something and to sit back and say nothing when you support something....just look how many negative posts there are on PB!
Well, if you want to see this project get built, write to DiCicco and tell him that. It would help if you live in his district of course! Residents in Queen Village had no say in this despite the site being 50 ft from QV. The South Street Headhouse District had no say in this despite the property being within the District. The public really had no say in this. Only the 28 members of the SHCA board got to vote. Even if you oppose this you should contact DiCicco....even though I hope you don't! Again, a city council ordinance changing the zoning on this site is really the only chance of getting this project done. If it doesn't happen what will we have? Best case scenario, a hole in the ground for 3yrs or longer. Worst case scenario, the developer could build a 6 story concrete parking garage by right. Write to Frank DiCicco and tell him what you think. make sure you include your name and mailing address too. Frank.DiCicco@phila.gov |

Got this via email. I'm a member of SHCA...not sure if you can get in if you're not. I'm not sure I'll be able to make this meeting, but I'm definitely hoping that something comes out of this that will allow this project to move forward.
Councilman Frank DiCicco will meet with members of the SHCA on April 3rd, at 7:00 PM, at Old Pine Church to discuss the proposed development Stamper Square . All are welcome. |

I have recently seen an email floating around the neighborhood about a petition against "spot zoning". It was typical "fear mongering" in which it was claimed that DiCicco's bill would change the zoning on the site opening up some sort of pandora's box that would allow the developer to sell the development rights to someone else who would have carte blanche to build anything under the sun.
Of course, the reality is that any proposed ordinance would include conditions or a "community benefits agreement" that would limit the usage on the property. As usual, a group will do anything, including making things up, to scare people into opposing this project. |

I've put this letter on HALLWATCH. http://www.hallwatch.org/faxbank/phi...ia/readletters (Search for Stamper's Square) I think my version is a bit better. If you like it, just copy it and paste it to the fax bank.

That they have done nothing to fix the zoning in their districts and they keep perpetuating this situations and turning citizens against each other. Your letters shouldn't be just about supporting Stamper Square. They should be about supporting Stamper Square AND taking the opportunity to properly zone the whole area (or not supporting Stamper Square AND taking the opportunity to properly zone the whole area - if that is your preference). You all need to work together to get the zoning over the whole neighborhood fixed so that there are no surprises for residents, developers know what they can and can not build and so neighbors can put an end to fighting with each other because of the inadequacies of City Council and their (sometimes illegal) zoning practices. Stamper Square is really a small piece of the bigger issue. |
