The windows on the garage appear as storefronts, thereby allowing for a sense of bringing the commercial element up to Wood Street.
The brick and panel give a contemporary look while maintaing a historic feel.

I agree with the others. The new part does look like crap. And some of the nicer interior features when it was a bank like the staircase on the west side were removed. The buildings across 3rd street are much much nicer looking. As for other new developments, York Sq fits in much better with the neighborhood. Personally, I think the new crap along 2nd and vine and behind the garage are better looking, yet I still call those "crap"

The towers along front closer to chestnut and walnut also look like crap with their full concrete walls all the way up like they have, so essex is better than them.
Compared to other properties in the city though, it's not the best value, and you certainly seem to come off as someone trying to sell the place, not as an unbiased neighbor. If you were interested in buying, you should be talking smack on the place to help lower the prices
