It does seem like a rather clunky re-do of Franklin Court. FC is quite clever, but part of what makes it work is that the buildings are literally nothing more than outlines. This sort-of-a-buiding, sort-of-an-outline design really doesn't seem to work.

As I mentioned it seems I'm the only one posting in
this thread who was involved in the selection process so it seems disengeneous to complain about the final design now. You had an opportunity to make your voices heard; you didn't. |

Michael Coard is the man, he is doing great things for the black community in Philadelphia. I'd defer to his judgment.

Here's another write-up in today's paper:
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/16816397.htm And this link shows the semi-finalists' proposed designs: http://www.phila.gov/presidentshouse/design.htm I know it's too little, too late, but I really like the Howard+Revis proposal.

From what I understand, they don't have the original plans for the Morris/President's House. They could rebuild its facade based on paintings, but what's the point of that. In 1800 it was turned into a hotel when Adams (who was the only President until his son who wasn't a slave owner) moved into the White House. As someone else mentioned, the Liberty Bell pavillion is in the way anyway. I like the idea of a monument, but for $5 million I'd expect something pretty nice considering the land is free.

he's a black racist? phew, I was worried he was a white racist.
Coard is a great man who I've worked with in the past and would gladly work with again. I understand folks don't want to hear what he has to say, the truth can hurt. |
