The developers have had a really hard time getting people to buy into the parking condo idea. I've seen them for rent on craigslist or the local free rags (Citypaper, Philadelphia Weekly). I think there used to be a sign on it that says 'for rent' with a phone # too. Dunno if it's still there.

There's a thread about it somewhere here too..

If you are paying for parking in Old City you won't find it much cheaper than 150. Last year I payed 150 at the Old City Parkminium on 2nd Between Vine & Race, but think they went bankrupt, im not sure. I also parked on the street for a while. There are certain spots in Old City where you can park on the street with no time limits, even if you don't have a residential parking permit.
New St between 2nd and 3rd
4th and Vine vicinity
5th and Vine vicinity
one side of wood st.

I always found a spot if I looked hard enough. Sometimes i just parked in a spot at night (after a certain time its fair game) and moved it in the morning before the time limit took effect. Happy hunting.

I rented a spot from someone who owned their own spot. they had purchased it directly from the parkominium. It was a great place to park. they had plenty of rentals if you wanted to rent from them, and you could pay month to month without a long contract. I left there 6 months ago so im not sure how it works now.

That part of wood street switched to 2 hr parking 9-9 a few months ago. But 24/7 for residents. Getting a residential permit is well worth it. It's like $10 more than one ticket, and I think renewals are less than a typical ticket.

We park our car at the Old City Parkominium. The monthly rate just got bumped up to $185. The guys that work there are always really friendly and most of them are pretty on top of things (will leave your car downstairs or have it ready when you ask for it) and others are a bit flaky.

After a year of parking there we've gotten a few dings on the car. Apparently it's pretty typical per a posting from a while back.

We park our car at Sky parking garage on 2nd, near Chestnut, and haven't had any dings/scratches (all the guys are very nice, too, and suggest that you call ahead to get your car). But it's $200/month, yuck.

No...Sky garage is between Cafe Spice and Plough & Stars. The parking next to the Ritz is south of Chestnut. I'd heard some time back that they were a little cheaper (and there may have been a waiting list), but I don't know what the price is now, or what the availability is.

IMHO it's worth it when weighed against paying through the teeth for a lot/garage. It also depends on how nice your car is and how much the risk of a few minor dings/scrapes bothers you.
Does residential parking apply anywhere? Or would they only allow to park at certain meters 24/7? I am looking to move into the area, but sometimes require to use the car to get to and from work.
