Default Delaware Waterfront Trail Proposed

Check out the brochure on the Center City District website.
It shows conceptual drawings for a multi-use trail from Penn Treaty Park to the Pier 70 area and beyond.

Project cost is estimated at 11 million dollars. The design looks excellent, modeled after the Hudson River Park Greenway in Lower Manhattan. It shows a separated pedestrian path and two way traffic markings on the bikeway.

After the unbridled success of the Schuylkill River Trail's extension into Center City, it should be obvious that making these improvements on the Delaware River side needs to be done as soon as possible. Why? Because the opportunity to continue to draw more residential construction on/around the waterfront depends on amenities within walking distance, as well as interest rates and favorable economic conditions in general. Only one of these things is within the control of the city. However well-planned, if timing is not on the city's side, then opportunity will be lost.

This is why I think the casino site selections need to be finalized as soon as possible, so that developing amenities within walking distance for the communities along the waterfront can begin promply. The impact of the casinos will be large. The city needs to make their coming a positive outcome for local communities, and one way to achieve this is to provide the green that is so desparately needed down there.

The Delaware waterfront and many adjacent neighborhoods are desparate for more green. Hopefully, the waterfront can be converted into a refreshing strip of natural beauty, as opposed to a fast-paced drag strip it resembles at present.

People here should post ideas on how to make this happen soon, if they support it.

Hey, this is cool. If they're going to have a casino on the Delaware waterfront, they should *deffinitely* have something like this. It would be similiar to the boardwalk in AC in the sense that after you leave the casino, you can take a walk around the area. Casinos aside, this seems like a logical step in the development on the waterfront, since there's so much planned for it anyway.
