I think La Famiglia is more expensive, but how in the world did you have a $190 bill with only two cocktails? I didn't think it was that expensive...

Default I went there but didn't stay for dinner

I went to La Locanda del Ghiottone about a month ago, but didn't stay for the food. It was way too air conditioned, too dark and the maitre d' was speaking TOO LOUDLY for the size of the restaurant, which is only as big as a decent-sized bedroom. After about 5 minutes of looking at the menu while freezing and listening to the staff yell across the restaurant, we left.

Entrees were 40 something, then add 2 apps. and desert, and tip. Of course, I was there on the company.

Cafe der Ghiottone, as it used to be called, was one of our favorite places, too, but we haven't been there in years so I don't know what it's like now. The late founder/chef believed that no one should pay more than $30 for a good meal, according to his newsletter at the time. I'd imagine it's a reasonably priced place today as well.

It's a true Italy Italian restaurant then. You get the real experience. I'd say 95% of the restaurants that I went to while living in Italy were no bigger than a few hundred square feet. And the maitre d' was always someone who was over the top. The best one that I ever saw was in Paris though. During the World Cup '98 he pulled a round house kick on some supporter that was causing a scene. 60+ years old and he dropped this guy in a heartbeat. Then went right back to seating tables.
