Default Another Cancer center tries to buy parkland

I just heard that the Cancer Center on Wyoming, is trying to buy a piece of the Juniata golf course. Of course this comes as this golf course is doing really well.

Id like to see the hospital purchase those awful apartments across fromt he golf course and make that patient suites. That would REALLY help the neighborhood!

Was this in the news? Do you have a link?

I think there's been rumors going on about that for a long time.

It's not exactly the safest area to expand in --east of Wyoming anyway.

Hey,who knows? Maybe Fox Chase will move their entire operation to Delaware, and this hospital can relocate to that space.

That rumor has been aroung for along time. And from what I heard awhile ago at a meeting it seems to be it will happen. Details need to be worked out. As for those awful apartments across from the golf course there is nothing awful about them. They are alot better since they fixed it up. There are still problems but they are far and few compared to the way it use to be. By the way the name of it is Carl Mackley.

This would be the best case scenario, because it does look like Fox Chase CC is serious about moving. Fox Chase CC has had to turn people down for surgeries due to lack of place to treat. In the best interests of science and medicine, I do think a move might be for the best. Even if 1000s of jobs are lost.

I would really love to see proof of them turning down surgeries. Just because they go to a satellite hospital or surgical unit doesnt mean people arent recieving care. I think this, as are other stories are all part of the sympathy pity party they are trying to project on the neighborhood. Wah wah!

I wish this were true, and I hope it becomes true.

Easy: "We can't schedule you until January." This is what we call turning people down. Turning people away: "I'm sorry, but Dr. Jane Doe isn't accepting patients at this time." This is happening and it's a shame, because a cancer patient lacks time to sit around and wait.

Mayfairchick I know you mean well, but if you lived up against the area in question you might feel differently. When I post on the Frankford Avenue thread I suggest that it needs a clean up, but I don't criticize the views of locals from Mayfairs and tell them what they do and do not need. And I especially don't make fun of their views with snide comments to end my posts. The "wah wah" comment is particularly insulting. My entire life is vested in this area- it's where I grew up and where I live at current. I have friends working for the FCCC and I know people treating there. I also have used the Burholme driving range, the NEO fields, and been to the Ryerss mansion. My story is not unique, most people in this area can relate to most if not all of it. I appreciate your concern for our area, but if you are going to show it while insulting and making fun, please don't.

I wasnt making fun of you, I think you need to reread, the wah wah was aimed at FCCC who throws these stories out for people to sympathize with. I also have quite a few friends who work there in different positions as well as have friends who live in homes that are directly across the street. I also have quite a few people who have been treated there successfully and unsuccessfully, none of them were ever told to wait.
Cancer is BIG business plain and simple. Fox Chase is expanding because they will recieve large amounts of money grants etc for doing so! They know if they leave there, there will be a Cancer center lined up to take over that spot ASAP.

You're fortunate. My friend's experience was very different. While her outcome was successful (so far) at another major cancer center, the emotional toll of switching from one doctor/institution to another was, at best, difficult.

I do realize that medicine is big business; I'm no fool. I also recognize that our open spaces are dwindling. However, when it comes down to a choice between human lives/emotions and a driving range, I'll take the former, thanks.
