PHILADELPHIA - July 8, 2008 (WPVI) -- Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey will hold the first of six public meetings to discuss neighborhood safety.

It is part of his ongoing effort to get feedback from city residents, about ways to combat violence.
Tonight's meeting will be at the Metropolitan Baptist Church, 3500 Baring Street, Philadelphia.

Residents who live in the 12th, 16th, 18th, and 19th police districts are encouraged to attend.

The other meetings that Commissioner Ramsey has scheduled are:
  • July 10 Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis Center
    4842 Ridge Avenue
    Residents of the 5th, 14th, 35th and 39th police districts.
  • July 15Philadelphia Community College's Bonnell Building
    1600 Spring Garden Street
    Residents of the 6th, 9th, 22nd and 23rd police districts.
  • July 17Saint Anne's Parish Hall
    Memphis and Tucker Streets
    Residents of the 14th, 25th and 26th police districts.
  • July 22 Penn's Landing Caterin
    1301 S. Columbus Boulevard
    Residents of the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 17th police districts.
  • July 24 John Perzel Center
    2990 St. Vincent Street
    Residents of the 2nd, 7th, 8th, and 15th police districts.

Great idea but I laugh every time I read the John Perzel center, Naming something after yourself that was funded with state money

It was late January when Ramsey was last here at Lincoln H.S. auditorium. 6 months later, he's back. That's a good sign, IMO.
I think at the 1st meeting in Jan., the meeting was a bit out of hand with random people telling their personal stories of car parking, dog crap, etc. Hopefully, this time around, there is more structure and pertinent crime issues in the NE are addressed and discussed.

Maybe some of the community leaders could get together and work out some sort of structure.
