Not sure but they do sell reasonably priced "starter sets", not sure how much she paid but my ex bought my grandson a guitar and amp there and I know it wasn't very expensive. Did you ever think to check the pawn shop on the other side of the Ave?

PLEASE do NOT go to that pawn shop !! I hope everyone stops going and the place closes down.

MChick - If you need lessons, you'll probably wind up at Pats anyway. Perhaps they have a guitar that comes with the lessons?

Is Cintioli's still at Oxford Circle? Is Howard Roberts still on Frankford Ave?
There's a Sam Ash in Franklin Mills, one in Cherry Hill (along with a Guitar Center).

what kind of music does s/he want to play?

He wants to play ACDC music LOL thats his obsession. But I figured he needs to learn to play the acoustic first...then he can move on to electric...LOL

Id like to stay local so what I may do is pop into Pats ask then try that Cintioli's on Oxford...Then...go to Sam Ash..we already love that place and know they have some good deals.
