Yup....they'll be fireworks...same time, same place July 4th unless it rains.

I don't have too much hope for the parade....the string bands' newest complaint: the parade route is too long! The regular groups will be there, as always, but no string bands unless something has changed in the last couple weeks. Car show will be there, flea market, rides, music.

The Parade route hasn't changed in eons, but all the sudden it becomes too long.

Last year, 2 outta 3 string bands booked, contracts signed, paid in advance, bailed out with no reason. The Committiee got their money back, but that does no good when you promise a community string bands, and then only one shows up.

I give it 2 more years before this one dies....it will be a sad day when it does.

It's a shame what the 4th has become in Lawncrest.

The shame in it is, they're bringing in money from the community, but groups are getting greedy with their fees and getting stingey with what they want to give for that money.

I have never seen prices jump so much in such a short time for groups who fly themselves as "community" groups. The real community groups are the only ones actually participating in the parade for free.

String bands used to be about performing, now its about money.

Live music got shot down the tubes when the City decided that it was too much money ($800) to bring up the stage for the event. (really, they needed it down town) So now the group is stuck with a small, concrete unshaded stage that really is nothing more than a loading dock that is hard to perform on.

Again, it all comes down to money.

Just like you're making the same amount of money you did last year, but your expenses are going through the roof.

The outcome is, people think it sucks, they don't come back the next year, vendors suffer from lack of business and they don't come back the next year and so on....the domino effect.

Now, if they could get some of that money that goes into downtown so the 'blood money' could be paid....I'm sure it could be put to very good use here in LawnCrest.

Went to the parade today. It's a shell of it's former self. The entire parade was over in 15 minutes!! The flea market at the rec wasn't much better. I'm hoping the best for fireworks tonight.

Oh yeah, also was told that Sweeney's closed up shop last night for good. What a shame. Spent part of my misguided youth in that place knockin' 'em back.

Yup...thats what you get for a free parade.

Cough up 4-6 thousand bucks and you coulda had 2-3 string bands, which due to their performances en route, make the parade longer time wise.

My mom today was talking about how the Nut bands used to spend all day at the Rec playing music....live entertainment....

Thats when bands used to be bands that performed for the sake of it...not for the dollar.

Fireworks are at Dusk, which by the looks of it will be somewhere around 9pm with the overcast.

I think that all of us on here who complain about and pick on the 4th of July in LawnCrest, still owe a great multitude of thanks to the many volunteers that made the 4th go off without problems.

It's NOT an easy task, but they did it. I think the day was very nice day, I didn't see anyone overly out of control at all, it seemed the crowds just enjoyed the day, and same is said with the fireworks which I thought were very cool this year....and even with the rain, a good sized crowd showed up and left with few issues.

Thanks should be had to the many "official" sponsors both private and business (over 60) and the residents who contributed directly to funding the day through the "mail-in" donation forms (over 1500). That of course doesn't include those who bought chances, tee shirts and made donations during the day.

And again, I say thanks to ALL of those who volunteered over the last year to plan and organize the 93rd annual LawnCrest 4th of July.

Ya'll did a helluva Job guys.

If you want to offer some help for next year, come out to their meeting in September at the Phila Protestant Home on Tabor Road. I'm sure if you're willing to actualy help out, (and not just bitch ) they will welcome you with open arms.
