Default Big Brother.....?

Yes, crime is high in this city. But I was just wondering though, how far would you go to support crime prevention. If you had the option to vote...Would you consider the big brother approach? The use of cameras thru out the city neighborhoods like other countries use.

I know some people hate this idea because they think it infringes on some rights like privacy. I can think of lots of ways it would help if used right.

So many possibilities with technology today. I would of course want it monitored by some law enforcement agency, but what about public access to these cameras? (even if it meant monthly subscription like cable to help pay for the monitoring by city).

Just think of some of the possibilities. They would be able to send a squad car by a corner of some suspicious character or activity. Stop a thief in his tracks.

Anyways, just looking for your thoughts good or bad for this type system. I wonder if it's even legally an option here.

Vote me- YES

Default Hell Yes

It's getting a little out of control around the neighborhood lately. I've gotten used to having my house buzzed by the philly PD helicopter on a monthly basis, so I think I can deal with cameras. My view is that the only people who complain about this stuff are people who are trying to hide something.

Vote me yes. I'll even help them put them up.

Honestly, I don't think that all of the cameras in the world are going to solve our problems. What we need are cops who aren't afraid to pull their guns, and aren't afraid to uphold the law. After that, we need to put an immediate end to all of the frivelious lawsuits ... ALL of them.

Think back to the Rizzo era. We had cops that weren't afraid to do their jobs, and anyone who sued anyone was considered a looser. THAT'S what we need !!

They're already located in some parts of the city. The problem, as usual, becomes you bring in the city, politicians and their "friends".

The UK has turned into a panopticon with cameras in big cities, and it hasn't helped.

I'd rather see the the two things that are proven to work; more cops on the street and longer sentences.

I understand more cops, longer sentences, less law suits, etc. That's all good. But you have to have proof to put these guys away and the cameras could provide some of that. And they would aid in thefts that "no one saw a thing"...yes?

Have security cameras eliminated shop lifting? All those chinese take out delis in north Philly have security cameras. Should they take down their bulletproof glass?

A friend of mine has been mugged twice just walking home from the corner store...Beaten up...Some people in that neighborhood witnessed and helped him call the police afterwards, but they "saw nothing" because they are afraid to stand up....I thought cameras might help id them thieves as well.

Nope, still aint buyin it. Look at how many peoples pics are taken during bank robberies and such and still nobody's caught. IMHO those cameras do nothing but sink the GOOD guys, not the bad.

I think you would see alot more of it without them...but also, again...if and when caught its on tape...No one is feared to say I saw him do that.

And if its anything like what I experienced...say he wore green but he was really in red....you just let him free!
