I'm with you! We use trash cans. It keeps the critters out of the trash and the trash confined. People are just too damn lazy and don't care if their property looks trashy with all those bags on their patios. It's bad enough if they have trash cans there, as well, but at least they are not as ugly as a pile of bags!

Back in the day, people kept their trash in their cellars or garages or back yards until trash day. Not anymore. Mayfair patios are FULL of trash bags. People are just slobs!

I hear ya MayfairMeat!!

I just walked home from dropping my car off. I alternate my route from busier streets (Bleigh) to smaller Sts. (Vista), etc.

In this area, it's the smaller streets that are disgusting with litter.

You, living on a busy street, have the unfortunate problem of heavier traffic=more litter from looosers who think nothing of tossing out their windows.
However, I find it's the juice boxes, candy wrappers, soda bottles, etc. that make up most of the trash around here. This is from kids.

Where is Michael Nutter with his Clean Philly campaign? Was this a one-shot deal?

Where is our Councilwoman--a neighbor on Shelmire St? Does she not see this?
Why can't she start her own 6th district campaign to Keep Mayfair beautiful?
Lay down the laws!! Communication goes a long way.

And as far as the scumbags who put their trash out in CVS, Wawa, etc. bags, and dump it all over the sidewalks, I say the trash men should be given the authority to ticket these houses. One warning... next time, $50 ticket.

Yes, litter is a big problem down here in Wissinoming, too. And what about spitting??? Males and females, both young and old, spit all over the ground! It's disgusting! If you don't see it and walk in it, then you track it in your house on your carpets. It is just another testament to the level of incivility that has permeated our neighborhood thanks to our new neighbors who don't care!

That is further down than where I am. It is a disgrace! It looks like Beirut! Where is the great Tony Payton, Jr.? Seriously--he should make cleaning up Frankford one of his top priorities.

I was riding down State Rd. past the bus stop near the prison just before Rhawn St.
The litter all over the ground near the bus enclosure was shocking. No trash can, nothing. Disgusting.

There's another "Litter" thread on the "General Discussion" link.
Now City council in its infinite wisdom thinks that increasing fines for littering is going to solve the problem.

Gimme a break. Who's going to write the ticket to little Johnnie who throws his chip bag on the ground?

[quote=MayfairMeat;799076]OK citizens, let's review some things that have been a fact of life here in this city since the 1700s.

NO Fair, you forgot to put option 'D' in question #2
So I have.

Number 2: When I buy something off the television or from Best Buy, or from some other store where the object came in a cardboard box... on Trash Day do I ____________

(A) break down the cardboard boxes and other larger loose items into sizes no larger than 2'x4' and tie them up with twine or string before setting them out
(B) find a 50-gallon drum and burn them in the street like in the Rocky movie
(C) use the cardboard boxes to securely hold other trash items and make sure to close the lid and/or re-seal the box
(D) Take the packaging back to the store you bought the stuff
from and let them dispose of it. Maybe then they'll start putting small things in small packages again instead of trying to convince you how BIG & EXPENSIVE it is.
Don't you get tired of removing 20 pounds of packaging for a ten dollar item. I am. Give the stores back their packaging let them pay to dispose of it.

Since parents are no longer teaching their children not to litter, Don't litter 101 should start to be taught in kindergarten and reinforced in every grade thereafter. I'm all for the higher litering fines but how about enforcing them? Parents should be held accountable for their minor children when they break the law.

Which side of Frankford, east or west? Just curious, my mom still lives by Shelmire and Jackson, which is where I grew up. It is disappointing to have an elected official live so close but seemingly turn a blind eye to the problem.
