Default Ale House taking over Smokey Bones

From Philly Edge paper. Menu looks yummy and the building looks like it will open soon.

The transformation of two former Smokey Bones restaurants into Miller's Ale House ( http://www.millersalehouse.com/default.asp ) is almost complete. One will be located in Langhorne near the Oxford Valley Mall (just off the 213/Lincoln Highway split) and the other will be on Roosevelt Boulevard in Philly.
It seems as though the chain is best known for three things: having a large beer selection; its ice cream cake; AND for making the go-to food for *NSYNC.

From the Ale House Web site:

Two featured proprietary items include "Zingers"® (boneless chicken wings coated in a choice of sauces) and a homemade ice cream cake dessert known as "Captain Jack's"®. The popularity of these items was demonstrated when the Pop group 'N Sync appeared on the nationally syndicated Rosie O'Donnell show. As the group walked onto the stage, they promptly presented Ms. O'Donnell with a few orders of their favorite appetizer, Ale House Zingers! All Ale House restaurants contain a full-service bar featuring wine, liquor and over 75 varieties of beer.

The folks who started Miller's Ale House used to own McNally's on Rowland Ave. in Mayfair a long time ago.

So, we finally made it to the Philly Ale House at Grant & the Blvd. Got there around 6:00pm on Saturday and they were on a 1 hour wait for a party of 4. They asked if we would be willing to sit at a high top near the bar, which agreed to, and were seated within 10 minutes.

As for the look - the restaurant is very nice with a great outdoor seating area. The bar is huge and was packed the entire time. Lots of beers on tap and $2 Miller beer specials all day, everyday There is a pool table and some video games in there as well.

The prices are very reasonable, as most meals were under $13 and even the 35 shrimp scampi was only $11. There is a lot of seafood on the menu, but also some great bar type food as well. Portions were big! We saw a table get nachos and the chips were stacked over a foot high and loaded with toppings.

We got the appetizer sampler and the fried mozarella and spinach dip were very good. The conch fritters and cheese crab ball thingies were okay. Next time want to try the zingers (boneless buffalo wings), they looked good. We ordered 3 steaks and a seafood entree. The steaks were good, not spectacular, but for $13, they were decent. The baked seafood platter was very good and the seafood stuffing is delish. For dessert we had an ice cream pie thingie and it was very good, too.

Overall, we will definitely be back. Service was good and the managers were roaming a lot and asking tables if everything was good. Food was good and affordable. Atmosphere was comfortable.
