Post The city asked us to recycle and now....

I don't know about you, but virtually anything you buy nowdays is recyclable. I have to use 3 containers for my recycling! The worst thing is that it sits there for 2 weeks! Why don't they recycle every week?
Anyone?

Aren't we supposed to have city-wide single stream recycling by July 1? I haven't heard anything about it and it's only 2 weeks away.

My ladyfriend just pointed the whole recycling thing out to me a few weeks ago. I wasn't aware that they now took plastics, and that you now no longer have to seperate everything. As a result, my old trashcan has now become my new recycle can. It does suck having it out there for 2 weeks though.

Penn and Teller? That's your reliable source. Or maybe you saw it on Wikipedia. Did you do any research on it yourself? I would love to hear it if you did.

You can use anything as a recycling bin. I use a rubbermaid storage bin when mine overflows, they even come in blue!

City website (www.recyclingpays.phila.gov) says city-wide single stream by July 2008 (they took out the "1st")

Default Single stream recycling citywide

Here is the recycling link:

http://www.ucityphila.org/news/release/144

The City's goal is to recycle between 25 and 50%. Since Nutter
became mayor we have increased our recyclables from 7% to 8% mainly because of single stream recycling.
For the uninitiated Single Stream Recycling means we can put all recyclables into one container. Plastics, Metals, Newspapers and even cardboard.
Currently most neighborhoods have bi-weekly pickup but gradually this summer that will change to weekly.
Some neighborhoods also have a pilot program where the recyclables are weighed and the homeowner recieves a coupon which can be exchanged at some stores. The downside of this program is that it increases the per truck picktime by 2/3 hours.
