Default Playground sprinklers on all night?

I just drove past Mullin Playground @ Princeton & Walker at 10 after 11 pm. The sprinkler was still on!!

Tell me they don't leave those things on 24/7?!?!?!?!!?

WOW, I can't believe that you called that playground Mullin. I mean, yeah, that's the "official" name for it, but pretty much everyone who grew up in that neighborhood back in the day called it Cooks. Cooks used to be a deli like store that was where Finks now is. I remember like it was yesterday when Frank Rizzo came and dedicated the playground in the name of Mullin right there in the basketball court. We all looked at each other and were like " Who the hell is Mullin?"

WOW .... thanks for the memories

That was the exact same reaction when they rededicated Tacony Park as Russo Park.
And me and my dad worked for the Russo family back in the day.

Default Playground Sprinklers

I drove past another playground late last night, MaureensAvon, and was also surprised - my first thought, though, was that perhaps it had had to do with the just-over heat wave? Sprinklers could be a blessing to some when the night temperatures remain high.

What a waste of water, imo.
If you live nearby, I'd call the rec center during the day and ask the worker why it's left on all nite.

Isn't Mullin playground was locked up at night?

Well, I didn't grow up here, I grew up in Wissinoming, so I don't remember that far back...but that's pretty funny.

I think the park is locked up at night, there is a sign that it's locked up after 9. But I don't know if the locks still function over at the back end at Wellington, near my house. I know I see people walking their dogs in there at all hours. I call it the Wellington Kennel Club in there!

The playground has changed a lot over the years.

I grew up right there. Back in the day there was a steel sliding board and a swing set right where that sprinkler was. There used to be gray minkey bars in the middle, and a see saw over by the steps followed by a green set of monkey bars. Past that, you had the kiddie swinds that were more like wooden chairs with a metal bar that slid down to keep the kid in.

Underneath everything back in the day were STONES !! I remember it vividly, because my Mom had to pick them out of my friends head after he fell off of the monkey bars.

Mid to late 70's they added some farm animals on springs, another smaller scale slide, but the big hit of the party was the addition of a twisty slide. We spent hours upon hours on that slide as did every other kid in the neighborhood. It was awesome !! That was also abut the time that the big lights were added to the field. Prior to that that field was pitch black, and a PERFECT place to drink.

Those were the days ...
