Agreed, but the current expansion on Fox Chase's own land is not irreconcilable with preserveing the public park lands.
Fox Chase is doing a "phased expansion" - translation, they know they've got a good chance of loosing, they're hedging their bets, and starting by expanding on their own property.

Given that Fox Chase has already created a phased development plan that reflects the legal precent that this type of plan is illegal, I have to believe that Fox Chase has a plan B in their pocket.

Over simplified, this is like "The Hunt for Red October" - I don't claim to have a contingency plan for Fox Chase, but based on the basic principles of corporate responsibility, they need to have explored reasonable alternatives.

In other words, I doubt that people as smart as Fox Chase's board of directors and their attorneys would create a multi million dollar expansion plan based on land scheme this is untenable and patently illegal basd on over 140+ years of case law.
They must have a backup plan, corporate executives are good at playing dumb when it suits them, but these guys are not that dumb.
They have a backup plan if they loose in court.

Ok, perhaps I spoke to quickly, however, given that hospitals tend to talk in terms of capitalization, e.g. how many millions or billions in service they provide, I think it's appropriate to use that same metric.

Admittedly, as a non-profit, they are not making a profit, but medical facilities definitely focus on their cashflow and financial prowess.

Hey I know about research money, based on my own unfinished PhD work in Biochem & Molecular Bio from a MD/PhD program, even did a rotation in an oncology lab focusing on uncompetitive enzyme poisoning and oncogenesis.

So, yes, hospitals are always broke, but in that regard they're a little like the peasants in Akira Kurosowa's "The Seven Samurai"; they always manage to find the money they claim they don't have...

I love the bathroom argument, as if suddenly the bathrooms will get better if FCCC expands. How about starting to put some pressure on the FPC to make those bathrooms better now. Also, what will happen to those people wanting to get to the walking track and parts of the park on the other side of the driveway that is separated from most of the park already? How will access be?

And before you go telling me I'm an idiot, I had originally supported this but most of the people wanting this to go through are not from the neighborhood and the concerns of those people have not been addressed, despite a pledge to coordinate the lights on Cottman Ave. Yeah, that's going to do it, and what of the Cheltenham portion of the road where FCCC isn't asking for land from? Sorry, but where is the urban/city planning department with their recommendations on this?

They're too busy taking care of a myriad of developmental issues in the more erm, prominent greater-Center City-area.

As for us remaining 1/3 of the taxpayers...well, we might be a footnote at some planning meeting.

That does severely piss me off. I want this resolved asap...the prospect of the FCCC moving to Delaware of all places really really has me worried.

Cottman Avenue at Central should have been re-engineered years ago. It's not all of the sudden going to become a problem because without a doubt it already is one. The FCCC was required to include re-engineering Route 73 in their plans. I recall that there were a few questions with the initial plans, but I think that they have since been resolved. Although you are correct that some planning body should be overseeing such a project, it is somewhat genious as to how the city went about having the road re-engineered.
