This makes me so sad. Yet another sign that my old neighborhood is a toilet. I remember going there as a little girl to get my shoes.
Thanks for the tip.

It isnt the neighborhoods fault there are other alternatives to buying shoes these days...

Yes, in a way it is the neighborhoods fault. The demographic of this particular neighborhood now as opposed to 30 years ago is completely different. What used to be a thriving working class neighborhood is now void of all the things that made people like living in Kensington. The residents now for the most part do not send their children to catholic school. Since this is the case, the store failed. It no longer had a market base for its goods. I know Kensington has always gotten a bum rap but it was a great place to grow up. Unfortunately the geographic location still exists but that's the extent of my old "hood".

Maybe they just want to retire or want to move their business elsewhere.

the man said they are closing because the parents are getting lazy and where they purchase the uniforms for their kids they buy shoes there also. and they just combined 3 catholic schools to make one in port richmond in september to be called "Our Lady Of Port Richmond". Kensington ave is made up of pawn shops, nail salons, and sneaker stores ecomony shoe shop sells dressy shoes and catholic school shoes it was just a matter of time for them to close.

And the difference between this and any other major artery in the City of Philadelphia, save for Chestnut Hill, is?

Try posting this on a New Orleans site. I just found out that Catholicism is practicly their state religion.

You'll sell out in no time.
