Default Old YWCA on Holme Avenue

Anyone here either remember this place or ever attend the summer camps that they offered back in the day, which I guess was in the area of the mid 70's to the mid 80's?

I believe it is now the Northeast Community Center.

I took swim lessons as a child in 1980-81 or so in their big indoor pool. I enjoyed my time there.

When I got older I wanted a membership there but it was so expensive and I couldn't afford it.

Did the Community Center keep the pool I wonder?

That is where I took my swim lessons, though a bit begrudgingly as I was not too pleased with water at that time. If memory serves, I did daycamp there from '78 or '79 until about '83, maybe '84.

What I did learn later in life, once the "Y" closed and the building was for sale, a few places looked at the building with intentions of making it into a rehab center. At that point, and we are going back 20 years, the pool and it's mechanical systems were in rough shape. On the other hand, I would be extremely suprised if the pool was let go.

I was back in the Northeast a while ago and wanted to stop in there specifically to see if the pool was indeed still there. Next time I am down there, I am going to make a point to stop in and see.

My sister used to dive there, was a diving champ.

In the early 70s, I was involved in the musical shows they did there.

YES, The gym is still there as well as the pool. It is now called the Northeast Community Center. I'm involved in a boxing class there on Wednesday nights. We just shut down for the summer, and we'll pick it back up in the fall if anyone's interrested.

I went there for a few years back in the 80's as well. Use to look forward to the trips to the park. Here is a old pic I found and scanned from there when I went...

Anyone in this pic other then me?

My mom sent me there to take swimming lessons because we were getting a big pool put in our yard..that was around late 60's early 70's..and I slipped and fell and broke my front tooth on the side of that pool..had a cap on that tooth until recently ..had a implant put in. So thats my memory everytime I drive past that place
