I work in somewhat of an industrial park. Actually, it's probably 90% commercial, and 10% residential on our block. We've got neighbors ( the residential ones ) bichin all of the time about the trucks comming down the street. The buildings have been here for well over 60+ years. You KNEW moving onto the street what you were moving next to. To move in and bich afterwards I don't think is fair to the industrial side at all.
Mayfairchick, I sympathize with your situation, however I don't think that the cliebtele comming and going from SmokeEaters is that big of a problem at all ... UNLESS it's some sort of cop party going on in there ![]() |

Psst I was caught smoking at a bar here in Mayfair a few nights ago. I needed a nightcap since my back was killing me and I had done a lot of furniture moving.
Well, I wasn't caught smoking... I caught the bartender smoking so I lit up, too. He even gave me a free shot before he went off shift. How'z them apples? ![]() Quote:

It's all part of living in the city, and I say, if ya don't like it......... MOVE ![]() Luckily, I'm on a nice quiet residential street midway between the ave and the blvd. On a typical summer night, way off in the distance, laying in bed, I can hear the faint roar of 18 wheelers hauling up the blvd, or the echo of the horn from a passing Amtrak/R7 train. Somtimes, I can hear the wail of a 15th dist. police cruiser probably chasing down a call. (donuts, anybody?) ![]() It's those god damn crickets in my lawn that make most of the noise... and I love it. I love my Mayfair ![]()

If the bathrooms are disgusting, I assume the rest of the place is disgusting. And that usually proves true. The problem with Smoke Eaters is their bathrooms are downstairs.. down a steep flight of steps. Not a good thing at a bar. However, they do have a bathroom on the main floor... but it's disgusting..or it was.. last time I was there. Has anyone been to the new Currens on Rt. 13? Now that's a nice bathroom. ![]()

I've been in some pretty nasty bar bathrooms in my time.
Call me insane, but since I only spend 2 mins in the bathroom, and hours at the bar area having a good time with people, I can deal with the bathroom situation. ![]()

Harringtons bathrooms are quite gross as well when there is a crowd..have the time the doors stand open, and the toilets are clogged...GROSS. Its quicker for me to walk home....

Yeah I guess, years ago people were allowed to smoke in the bars so it was a non issue...now its an outdoor party..they have beers on the sidewalk during the day which I assume is illegal....its when things keep being pushed to the limit that I get annoyed...I shouldnt have to walk to Capriotti brothers with my kids only to return and have to walk through a few foul mouthed drunks outside the Shamrock or Caspers. We arent talking about evening hours only...this is in broad daylight....Im not sure what resolution the bars could come up with...with exception of reminding patrons to be considerate of neighbors VIA the bouncer. If they dont have their drinks out there with them, maybe they wouldnt stay out there for long....

I do have to add, when we moved in 15 years ago, there was one shot and a beer neighborhood bar...CASPERS...now there is Shamrock and Caspers both take two properties and now caters to the 18-25 set, and there is also Tailhooks,Tailhooks usually doesnt have rowdies. I am not sure if the Civic association ever took issue with new bars going in and since they are neighborhood owners probably not. I also have to add that some people "have" moved from surrounding blocks and also the apartments above the bars /businesses on Cottman, due to the problems associated with the bars. Whether its the patrons from Caspers who continually urinate and crap in the doorways, or pound on and ring the doorbells. Not to mention Thanksgiving day when Caspers patrons arrived (drunk) before the bar opened at 6:30 am and proceeded to fire their beer bottles around the streets and honking their horns. Those of you who dont live near enough to hear it..it doesnt affect you yet, but it will, when the blocks surrounding the avenue start emptying of responsible property owners and start turning section 8. I am just about ready to go (move)...I feel a great deal of guilt about it but so many things I see and I cant change, so I believe its time for me to find a place where I can at least get a good nights sleep. We have been looking for a new home..but its so hard to leave I really want Mayfair to work.
