MARC-ing Holmesburg Holmesburg and Upper Holmesburg recently received 40 new neighborhood banners along Frankford Avenue courtesy of the Major Artery Revitalization Committee (MARC). There are 20 Holmesburg banners that run between Sheffield and Solly avenues. The 20 Upper Holmesburg banners hang between Solly and Linden avenues. A picture of the banner can be viewed at www.marc-cleansweep.com. “We would like to thank Councilwoman Joan Krajewski (D-6), state Representative Michael McGeehan (D-173), Congresswoman Allyson Y. Schwartz (D-13), the Community Life Improvement Program (CLIP), the Holmesburg and Upper Holmesburg Civic Associations, as well as SEPTA,” said MARC President John Byrne, “for their support of this beautification effort.” Similar banners plan to be added in Tacony and Wissinoming as part of MARC’s Torresdale Avenue Project (TAP), which breaks ground this summer. MARC is a non-profit community revitalization organization in Tacony, Wissinoming, East Mayfair, Holmesburg and East Torresdale. For more information, please contact 215-332-MARC or visit www.marc-cleansweep.com. MARC IS FINANCED IN PART BY A GRANT FROM THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

MARC didn't hang the Mayfair banners. It may have been either the Mayfair Community Development Corporation (CDC) or the Mayfair Civic Association.
I don't know why they were taken down or if they are going to be replaced. But, I will try to find those answers and report back. Thanks,

Cool ... Thanks !!
I remember when they first went up, they were green and they said something like "Mayfair, a great place to live, and a great place to work". They hung up for about 6 months or so and then they were changed out with red white and blue ones and then they dissapeared altogether, If you can find out what happened and maybe have them put up again, that would be awesome !! Thanks !! |

I don't know if you remember or not, but back in the day the Christmas decorations along Frankford ave were beautiful !!
It was a green garland that ran the entire length of Frankford ave and at each post there was a green wreath with 3 red lit up bells hanging from it. It was absolutely beautifull. Todays white wreaths are nice don't get me wrong, I'm really glad that they didn't abandon Frankford ave altogether, but that green wreath set up was awesome. |

Naah, they stopped hanging the wreath probably going on 10 years now. They now just hang a white wire wreath that is lit up around it's edges similar to those white wire reindeer that you see on peoples lawns. Not as nice as the old garland, but still nice to see that they didn't abandon it altogether. |
