I just came from a little store in the NE and there was a guy in front of me talking to the lady at the cash register asking her for a donation for the philadelphia fire department the lady said very politely no. Then the guy closed his book and started to walk out and said I hope your store don't burn down. I was like WOW. The lady was scared she called the fire dept and they told her its not the fire dept its a company they hire and was told to call the fire dept union.

I guess they're not making enough money off the harrassing phone solicitations(all groups, not just the FD) so they're starting a door to door campaign.

I love when you tell them you're not in a position to donate (phone solicitations..FD/PD) that they say "OK, we'll just put you down for a $10 donation then and send the form out"....it takes everybit of me not to curse them the hell out...but I just say, I said NO and good bye.
This type of solicitation is giving both the PD and the FD a very BAD reputation and makes you not want to give. Their callers often sound like they are doing this on a volunteer basis, which used to be the case. Good Acting.
