I know, it’s crazy because the majority of people would say the exact same thing. Many people aren’t aware of the stores on the avenue. In this section of the city we are just so programmed to drive everywhere. Other parts of the city don’t have the luxury to get in their car, drive to a mall and then expect to have that parking spot there when they return or better yet park in their garage. Those areas are more closed in and therefore support the neighborhood stores and in turn it helps the community.

It would be great if the people of this area would go back to the old ways and take the short walk to the neighborhood store. Hahaha maybe the skyrocketing gas prices will be enough of a reason for people to do that.

Dude, you can't be serious, thinking Frankford Ave will turn into something like New Orleans or Miami!! You've got a long ways to go. Frankford Ave will NEVER change and always be kinda dumpy. That's just how it is.

The Northeast is becoming the new North Philly, imo.

I dissagree. I think there are people and businesses on Frankford ave who already Do care and DO see the potential. I'll list a few businesses who have already stepped up to the plate and have already improved the look and feel on Frankford ave ( PROPS to them !! )

1. Moe's deli
2. Philly Soft Pretzel Factory
3. SmokeEaters
4. Grey ( although I Do miss that old tilted window look that it used to have )
5. Beauty Salon across from Reales ( I don't know the name, but they did an AWESOME job with the refinish )
6. Harringtons bar

There are others, but you get the idea. There ARE people here who already DO care and want to see things better. I wish I had a dollar for every time I ran into a neighbor at either Chickies on the blvd or 3 Monkeys, The Ashburner ect. We could keep the neighbors RIGHT HERE without having to leave the neighborhood easily with just a little work. It honestly wouldn't take much. The foundation is already in place, we just have to do a better job of working with what we have and stop waiting for someone else to do it for us.

LMAO !!!

I remember like it was yesterday when I was a kid and I told my Mom that I rode my bike up to the Roosevelt Mall to by a pair of sneakers. She yelled at me and told me that everything that I needed was right up on Frankford ave and that there was no reason at all to go to a mall to buy anything.

It's stuck with me ever since.

You're probably thinking of BeautyWorx. It's nice outside..and inside. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.
Next door to it is Dress Up Time: a ladies dress shoppe. Never been in the dress store before. There again, my first impulse would be to drive to the nearest mall for a department store when I need a dress for a special occassion.

Yup. Lived in Philly all of my life. Born in Somerton and slowly moved down towards the Cottman area. Have/had friends/family in Mayfair, so I am no stranger to the area.

We have recently re-energized the Mayfair Business Association. I have created a Website for us. The Website is still in its early days and needs a lot more work. I plan to reorganize the list of members by category. Currently its alphabetic, which isn't really very useful.

We have our first event this Saturday, The First Annual Mayfair May Fair. I'll post about it as soon as I have time to write up a good description.

Great Job Scoats!
I have always said we needed a website for the neighborhood, this is a great start. I wish I was more PC literate I would love to help!
