LOL ... St Matts WOULD be a really cool bar, however it's off of Frankford avenue and therefore it wouldn't work

Sorry ...

Do we even agree that it NEEDS improving?

More factories on the waterfront.

WOuld mean more jobs.

Which allows you to have wealthier residents.

Which would restore Frankford to it's peak.

Otherwise the poor trash moving into the rentals will drive it into the ground.

Or...what's happening now.

While that sounds nice, unfortunately that ship has sailed. We'll never see factories along the riverfront again. We simply can't compete with China or other cheap labor countries. I remember working for a company in the 80's and our jobs went to Mexico. THAT was MY wake up call.

Any other ideas?

My suggestion for bars was basicaly to increase tourism and dollars spent in Mayfair. While I agree that there wouldn't be as many jobs available as ther would be in a factory, ther WOULD be an increase in jobs in Mayfair as a result of the increased tourism.

See what I mean?

There are already enough bars. What you need to attract people are artisian shops, art galleries, restaurants (like Rylei), etc.
Also, unlike your examples of Bourbon St. & Key West, Frankford Avenue is a major artery and could never be clossed for pedestriain traffic on a permanent basis.

I thought about artsy shops like that, but I just don't think they'd survive without tourists comming to Mayfair. The people in Mayfair sure as heck can't afford that kinda stuff, at least not on a level that will keep the shops open that's for sure, but once we have the lure ( fun bars ) then yeah, people of all kinds of incomes will stop by and THEN you put your art shops in.

I agree that Frankford ave is a major artery and that you can't shut it down, however Duval street in Key West isn't shut down to traffic either. Main street in Manyunk isn't either, so I don't really think that would matter.

I wish they would open a Margaritaville on Frankford ave. I'm in full agreement lets have a 3 block strip with bars nice restaurants little clubs and such, I think it would fly. It wouldn't be as popular as a book store but it may have a chance
