The (white) neighbors that own the home next to house where I grew up are from Yonkers. They're clearly alcoholics. Their house looks like crap, they have junk in their yard, and the yell all the time. Both collect disability but seem remarkably able bodied to me. My mom's house -- immaculately maintained. It would all be so simple if this was really a racial issue. It's not.
I've stood up for black folks on here just as much as I've cursed them.

While a lack of civility might not be a racial issue, in this and most neighborhoods with similar problems, the outsiders who are coming in and causing problems are black. And as for upwardly mobile, none of my white neighbors fit that description anyway. I just want people around whom I don't have to treat like children. I shouldn't have to tell a man who is close to my age to not piss on the sidewalk.

The Russian neighbors living on the corner are a bit odd. However, while walking their cat on a leash, they are sure to acknowledge me and say hello. And no one has a problem with them. I shouldn't have to reach out and try to attribute all horrible acts as a cultural issue and make excuses. I want the ignorant people to not cause a ruckus. We all make sacrifices, so the dummies can change their culture.

TB - I agree with brightside here.

You COULD be having the same exact problems with a bunch of white "gangsta" thugs as you are with the famlies that are living there now. The fact that they are black doesn't really matter although YES, because they are black it makes it difficult for guy's like Brightside to move in.

Are these homes that theyare living in section 8?

On another note ...

Brightside - had you left just the first sentence out of your reply, it would have been so much more effective.

Just a thought.

Oh please B....you know we go back and forth and we tend to be somewhat civil about it. If people cant take a few jabs online then they should go sit in the corner.

The citys poor and underprivileged have to live somewhere and they are certainly not going to live in the burbs or your neck of the woods. So we are forced to take the brunt of the infestation whether we like it or not. I cant force them to get better jobs and take care of their homes.

No amount of making the area appealing to the middle class will convince them to move in if the less then desirables already populate the area. The onslaught has already metastasized and more people will move out making it worse.

It's weird

When I do my stroll around Lincoln, I say hi to everyone that I pass. Sometimes I'll get a hi back, sometimes people look off into space as if their not paying attention, and sometimes I don't egt a response at all.

Weird ...

SWCC was a shithole 10 years ago. Good people moved in. There's no reason why the same can't happen in the Northeast. It sounds like you recognize that this is really an economic thing. So I don't get the racial rhetoric that you fling around sometimes. You want good upstanding solid neighbors. That should be the end of it. You're not alone in detesting the thug mentality, phony preachers that made excuses for bad behavior, and people who think that the government owes them a handout.

Jesse, Al, may not be the best leaders in the world, but at least black people have SOMEBODY to turn to !!

Food for thought ...
You're asking the wrong person. I don't think grown people should need to look to some famous person so they can see how to act like a civil human being and not a moron.

The first thing people need to do is realize that the "ruling class" keeps the lower and middle classes fighting amongst themselves while they continue to screw us over. One powerful tool they use to do this is race. Notice how the media is quick to pounce on racial tensions? The Don Imus thing, the Kanye West thing, that whole bullcrap thing with that Reverend Wright guy. Racially provocative stuff dominates the news while serious matters get less attention. I can't even bear to watch CNN anymore. It's a joke.

The message that should have been on that flier shouldn't have been "Dangerous minorities kill people." I can't think of any slogan that would get my point across, but one of the points it was trying to get across was "Guns don't kill. People do." They just tried to turn it into a race issue, which is part of the problem.

I agree and I know plenty of them personally....family friends etc....They will even be at my wedding. These are people ive known my entire life who have fought tooth and nail to get to where they are today and I respect that...hard work and dedication are key values that show me people actually give a **** anymore.

But they are the exception....

I see no other solution.....people can talk, march and rally all they want...my opinions will not change.
This is where you and many Whites are wrong. they are the rule. The thugs are the exception and the thugs are getting all of the attention.

Society is too tolerant of stupidity nowadays, whether they be black or white. Kid gets bad grades? Blame the schools and poverty. Kid does drugs and shoots people? Blame it on music and movies. Stop blaming others and realize that nobody is to blame but them and their failures of parents.
