IMO, I don't think they will have an impact either way.

Again, if hard working decent minorities who have the means to buy in you neighborhood don't feel welcome you are only shooting yourself in the foot. Instead of people who care about the neighborhood you'll get Section 8 renters (of all races) who will add to the headaches. I've laid this out before and don't care to go into detail again.

So before all of this transpired what was the excuse then? What was the excuse 10+ years ago?

I've asked this question many times and have yet to get anything approaching an answer. What is "Thirteen Stars" "doing" besides fomenting hate. It's not like the he has a an influential relationship with the police brass in your district or with elected officials. Anything associated with his name instantly loses credibility. Contrast that with what community associations have been able to do in places like SWCC. Thy've tried to build an inclusive sense of community and taking their concerns to people in power under a unified voice. It's been pretty effective.

And that's the perception that continues to irk me, especially here on PB. There's a few PB posters that periodically cruise through the NE forum only to fan the flames and that "mis"-conception that I doubt have ever even been in the area. Maybe they should do a little research on the AA communities and their history that have been and continue to be in Tacony and Holmesburg before all of us were even born. I'm not denying the fact that racism does exist up here to some extent but really not much more then in any other close knit "neighborhood" atmosphere and all the hype and publicity gets overblown due to the few.

A few weeks ago he let me know that the Holmesburg Civic was starting up and that I should take a peek. Im not telling you if I did or not but whos to say we dont already have the authorities ear? Sure they know who 13 is...but people like me....nobody knows...and thats why we are so valuable. Im what is called a Lone Wolf....I have connections but I am not part of an organized group.

I don't understand the question. People had been fleeing urban areas throught the 90's. Some were following manufacturing jobs that left. Others were upgrading and moving to larger homes in the burbs. Someone had to fill the void in your neighborhood. Renters did. You need to reverse that trend as quickly as possible. Welcoming potential homeowners who only fit certain racial and ethnic criteria will only speed up the decline/ slow down the recovery.

Well I hope you can sort your issues out. I'll just reiterate that any organization that places Keith Carney in a visible role will instantly lose credibility. If your members racialize everything and publicly express bigoted views, you will lose credibility. Good luck.

I dunno. You guys are probaby no more racist than sections of South Philly. You definitely aren't as tolerant as SWCC; but (at the rik of sounding "elitist") there's a totally different demographic here.

He stated to me in a PM long ago that it was about "everyone" that's detrimental to the area. I guess he and the "group" still didn't get around to that major white drug dealer that's less then 100ft from his residence.
