Default R.I.P. Carmens market

For many years one of the best sandwich shops in the N.E. in my option is now being replace buy what thay are going to call Kings deli. I dont know when this take over took place but boy has the quality gone in the tank.

I walked in yesterday and should have known by the availability of parking spaces outside that something was up. There were 2 Oriental women at the counter who could not understand what I was talking about when I asked if they took MAC, second for the first time in my whole life I was the only one in the store no more standing 5 deep waiting for sandwiches . I ordered my stuff and walked to get some chips form the other side of the store and these two women stared at me the entire time like I was going to hold the joint up at gun point .

When I got home the killer for me was realizing the sandwiches are now half the size and the roll was obviously from the day before

So in closing thank you Carmens Deli for putting a little extra love handles on me over the years of serving your great sandwiches and so long Kings deli, I doubt you will be making it

Is that the deli on Bustleton near Devereaux? Never ate there, but knew it was there a long time.

That's what I was thinking. I pass by it all the time. I'd guess it is there at least 25 years maybe more.

That's the same shopping center with the Bamboo Bar- which looks like it is closed, not sure. Across from there was a short-lived place run by Asians that sold all kinds of teas and coffees and cakes. It was a cute little place and then one day is was all closed up. It's still empty.

Not good.

I wonder if the new owners still have the license to sell beer? If so, they'll probably do ok on just that.
Carmen's had good sandwiches, but was very filthy.
On the other hand, I've yet to walk into any corner store that wasn't filthy. Dirty floors, dirty ceilings... why is that??

I found out a few months that there were new owners at Carmen's. I had about $75.00 in script (tuition vocher) gift certificates that the new owners would not accept them. That was my last visit there.

Default Wow...

Seems like all of the Mom and Pop places that have been around for years and years are dissapearing... This is due to so many factors that are beyond our control... but We are partly to blame we as customers "Expect" to find the same ol place when we go... once a month or evry few months ? ... Now multiply that times all of their customers and we expect them to make money and stay in business ? when we are too busy buying from all the "Fast Food" drive-thru in our hurried life style and support the corporations that have the means to support ALL of the chains nationwide... but the "LIL" guys lose and big they lose their livelyhood and there goes the neighborhood!
So I leave you with this.. next time you think of that "Favorite" Mom and Pop place that you "Used" to go to GO! it may be just a memory sooner than you think !

Unhappy

In the late 70's I worked at Roy Rogers (now Boston Market) at Levick and Blvd.. My buddies and I would order from Carmens a couple of times a month during our breaks. They used to have "Two-fer Tuesdays" which were two sandwiches for the price of one on Tuesdays. It's another local landmark that is going to be sadly missed.

sad. Its our neighborhood deli .. and has been for over 25 years. We know all the people who work there.. They all hate ther new owners.. Granted, the new owners really cleaned the place up.. But now the shelves are empty and the prices have skyrocketed. In fact they employeed the old owner for a short time to 'show' them how to run a sucessful business. Guess they did not listen.. We have only been there a few times over the last month. It was a daily place to visit for us. Shame. I honestly give it a year.. tops. It will be closed... NO ONE in the neighborhood go there anymore.. NO ONE
