I don't ever blame the 10-20+yr. "mom-and-pop" stores for selling out. They sell for reasons like: they've done their time, .. time to sell. Getting older.. no one to carry on. Risk of holdup/injury/theft vs. insurance/profit. Etc.

But why does it seem that only Asian, Hispanic, Indians or another nationality seems interested in buying up our local corner stores?
Don't these corner stores in our neighborhoods make the $$ to show a profit to encourage local people to take it on?

Why is it that "Tyrus" says, "Never buy sandwiches from Asians?" He'll say this out loud... and he's right!! I won't order sandwiches or salads from a store I know is run by Asians or Indians. Why?
#1. Because they are not in the business of making sandwiches. They don't want to make you a sandwich anymore than I do!! Therefore, their product is old. Old=stale. Stale = sickness.

#2. I have a real sensory problem with walking into a store that stinks. I'm not talking meat/cooking/luchmeat smell. I'm talking a stink that I can't quite describe. It smells dirty to me.

Our corner stores that we've grown to love are being bought out by people who can afford the mortgage/financing on a "commercial" property, and who can live above it with their families .. while breaking even, or showing a profit.

That's my take on this whole thing.

NO ONE in the neighborhood go there anymore.. NO ONE
I agree with you 100% i could not believe my eyes when there was no one in the store, the only thing that will keep this place hanging on for a short while is there take out beer business

Four Lads on Castor Ave. was our main deli for years and years. It was taken over by Asians and he also learned from the original owners.

The new owner seems like a great guy and kept a lot of things the same. We moved and stopped going not because of the owners but the customers got really scary and dirty looking. I was afraid to walk around to the store so we moved out of the hood in which we lived in for over 40 years.

I've been to four Lads. The people were friendly. My mom still lives in the hood. I left for greener pastures.

Too bad there is no Silvio's in Philly. They are in Hatboro (used to work up that way) and they have the absolute best hoagies I have ever had! They make their own bread every day on the premises. I had a Greenman's hoagie last week for the first time in a long while and it was terrible! For starters, the lunchmeat is sliced way too thick. I asked for a thin layer of mayo and easy on the onions. There was so much mayo on it that it oozed out with every bite and I had to remove half of the onions! I ended up throwing it out it was so crappy! And I know Mitchell, the owner of Moe's, has a reputation for his constant revolving door string of employees but at least the food is still very good and the place is clean. At least Mitchell (son of Moe) kept the place in the family and didn't sell out to foreigners like 99% of the others around here. I wish everyone would boycott these foreign-owned places. Even the beer distributor at Harbison & Van Kirk was just taken over by asians! If we all stop giving them our business, they won't be in such a hurry to buy up every other business in our neighborhoods as they become available. Remember, all these foreigners started out five or so years ago by first buying up single family and duplex investment properties in our neighborhoods in bulk, and they repeatedly rent them out to any low-life who is breathing and has the upfront money. Their tenants are our nightmare! They only care about their bottom line--not our communities.

Roaches and rodents(especially infestations) leave a very distinctive odor.
