Did anyone ask that the equipment be repaired? Or was it just a complaint about things being broken? Maybe get the media involved. Some bad pub might get things rolling faster as far as replacement equipment.

Further Discussion - Private Funding seems to be the talk

If anyone interested in joining in on trying to completed this task, please email me your name and number at ken92min@comcast.net any help will be much appreciated!

I have a question...when did you recieve this information? I just cant believe my theory of be proactive or it will be razed rang true, the community managed to have the city, order the playground removed in just 30 days of complaints....too bad we cant get them to act so quickly on other issues like drugs, nuisance bars, trash....

Default Friend's for Lincoln's Playground Repairs

I am amazed as much as you are on this. The surface was asked to be replaced. I quoted exactly what the School District sent me. No words were changed. "Today, April 30th, the School District will be removing the surface padding in the Lincoln tot lot. In addition to the padding, the district will be removing the remaining playground equipment. All of the benches and picnic tables will remain in the tot lot. Replacement of the playground equipment will need further discussions." I was told to also thank JoanKrajewski for this. I reached out to her office again today with no response on why the equipment was taken out and how it will become a teen hang out area instead of a fun place for our children to play at.

Will you organize with me on forming a "Friends for Lincoln's Playground" to get the repairs made and the playground back for the kids? Anyone willing can email me at ken92min@comcast.net

I had asked a friend on Sunday to get some info for me on companies that put in that Playground surface etc... to come up with an estimate to repair it...imagine her surprise when I called today to tell her the playground was removed...

So all of the equipment was thrown into dumpsters....I was hoping they would salvage it, most was still very usable...what a shame all that hard work of community volunteers was just tossed away. I would like to know more on who made this decision and what if anything Joan krajewski's office had to do with it. I have never seen anything done this fast so it must have had someone's blessing.

Default Time to Organize - Friends for Lincoln Playground?

Here is the latest:

"Ok The word from Councilman Jack Kelly's office is that the Philadelphia School District is removing the tot lot with no plans to rebuild. I also found out that the tot lot was built on School Dist property with money raised by a group called the Mayfair Community Association with the promise that the association would care for cleaning and maintenance. There was apparently an internal problem in the group the money disappeared and the group disbanded.

The Recreation Dept took it upon themselves to try to keep it maintained although it is on School District property and no city funding have ever been appropriated for the tot lot for any purpose.

The School District has no interest in or money to rebuild, and the Recreation Department was never interested it it to begin with. So funding would have to be raised by a nonprofit group. A Sports group, Civic Group, Knights of Columbus, VFW etc. Also the city Department of License and Inspections Philadelphia Department of Recreation and The Philadelphia School District and others would have to approve any rebuilding plan."

email me at ken92min@comcast.net for any interest
