You are correct, walking by you will see many children at play. The fence and the light poles make the playground an attractive place from the outside. Then when you actually go into the playground and have your children and or grandchildren play is the problem. The surface is in major need of repairs, this why I am pursuing this. My daughter was playing and her tiny little foot was caught in the surface, causing her to be projected forward and hitting her tiny little face on the metal foot bar. What a beautiful swollen 22-month-old black and blue eye for Easter. Additionally, there are bolts missing on the equipment, and cracks on the sliding board.
No one has the money to repair it, and yes I am active in seeking private funding to have a safe area for my children and those who also frequent this playground. This playground is not taken care of, nor looked at by the property owners. Since the property owners are the School District of Philadelphia, repairs will not be made. If this were anyone else's property, we would be fined and probably sued. Your comments on expecting over night for something to happen, a month to actually go by and finally inspect the playground proves this will be a long and slow process. Any help you personally would like to offer, please feel free to email me at ken92min@comcast.net and I will be in contact to see our next step.

I would have sent pics of that too. Poor little thing. Ill be at the Civic association meeting on Monday and hope maybe someone can give us an idea on what this costs to repair and how we can help with the funding.
Also though, what concerns me, is that when it is repaired how can we keep the teens from ripping it apart again.

I did sent pictures of her face and the surface, cracking slide and the missing bolt to everyone. The only response was fingers pointing and a sorry for her face, but we have no money!
The surface isn't from the teenagers, but the wear of the padding surface. The areas that I am talking about are the areas where the children climb up and slide down on the playground areas. Everyone always wants to blame the teenagers, but this time they are not to blame but the neglect of the School District to maintain their property. Looking forward to Monday Night, hopefully something positive will come of this.

Actually years ago the teens ripped out the very new apparatus there they had, bouncy cars and animals..they lasted about 6 months. They also melted the slides by setting fire to them. I do believe though this playground was built by a community group wasnt it? Or was it just redone by the community group....that surfacing though nice doesnt last long. I wonder if anyone has gotten an estimate on fixing it and bolts and screws dont cost much...sounds like something that is very doable. I would be more than happy to help with cleaning it up and planting...you up for organizing all of this Ken?

The School District has responded to the request for fixing their property. "Today, April 30th, the School District will be removing the surface padding in the Lincoln tot lot. In addition to the padding, the district will be removing the remaining playground equipment. All of the benches and picnic tables will remain in the tot lot. Replacement of the playground equipment will need further discussions." Further Discussion - Private Funding seems to be the talk If anyone interested in joining in on trying to completed this task, please email me your name and number at ken92min@comcast.net any help will be much appreciated!

Sounds like the law of unintended consequences has occurred. All of the screaming about fixing up the playground has resulted in shutting down the playground. Do you really think the school district is in any hurry to reopen it and replace the existing equipment? Now it's going to turn into a littered lot.

What I cant believe is that it was taken down before anyone could protest...I went past at 6:30 am and the gate was locked, today was the first day. I went by at 8:10 am and the structures were almost completely taken down...its a shame because the equipment itself was still in pretty good shape just needed to be maintained.
