Thumbs up Start Snitching

this is a quick note to everyone logged onto Phillyblog.com. if you wish to make anonymous crime tips that would help criminal investigations in Northeast Philly, send me a private message and ill make an attempt to make whatever info you have- 'happen'.

this is an open invitation to anyone. your identity would be 100% confidential/guarded- thats a promise.

heres an opportunity to drop a dime on the gun toter, gun runner, drug dealer, burglar or robber that youd like to see behind bars.

many, many people have information regarding crimes here in the northeast but fear retailiation, retribution or the stigma of being labeled a 'snitch'. perhaps youd like to get something off of your chest, clear your mind or just help the police out.

if youre browsing the northeast forum, chances are you actually CARE about the northeast- as do i.

Why would anyone respond to a alias to offer a crime tip, rather than just calling it into the police?

Who are YOU?

im a detective assigned to northeast detectives i think that the forum is an excellent medium for information to be passed along with relative ease.

if someone has a question in regards to crimes being committed, PM ME!

if someone would like to know descriptions of people were looking for, PM ME!

not only is this a (little) way to help us turn the Northeast (and city) around and into the right direction, its quick, easy and confidential.

Sounds like a great way to add another layer of anonymity for anyone concerned about the ramifications or retaliation from snitching.

After all, isn't it pretty easy to get yourself a screen name here that no-one else knows you by?

And if you PM him/her, who says you have to tell Mr. Law and Order here who you really are?

I think this sounds like a great idea! Start snitching!

That's fine, assuming that the OP is, in fact, a law enforcement official. But how do we know that?

I've never heard of police asking for information in this way. They always give out official telephone numbers, etc.

Unless the identity of the OP can be verified, I'd be careful before contacting him/her. I wonder of the Captain at the 15th District knows of this and has approved of this?

Something very unusual here . . . I'll just make a quick call to Internal Affairs and see what they know about this.

There's also contact available through the PPD website to report all types of activities and you can also do that anonymously. Not sure how quickly or seriously they respond to it though since I've used it multiple times without seeing any results. If I'm not mistaken there also used to be a narcotics officer that posted here asking for confidential info from concerned people.

exactly- its a cloak of secrecy for those who are apprehensive. anonymity.

if someone who sends me PM's doesnt want to be known, thats fine! there are ways for me to take their information and work with it.

here is something that i dealt with last week: an 87 year old widow's house was shot three times (while she was home!) as the drug boys shot at each other in front of her house. SHE IS EIGHTY SEVEN!!! as expected, there was ZERO cooperation in identifying the shooters when we went to the scene.... but you all know just as well as i do, that A LOT of residents not only know WHO did it, but- where they live, what they drive, etc.

there are 'good people' who WANT to get involved, but dont- simply due to fear. a real fear that exists because of the gangster-culture in the city.

so- in essence- if a 'good person' who witnessed a crime and would like to provide information, however unimportant you think it may be- PM ME!
