I remember going to the Crest to see Fantasia......all thats left are the stores that used to be in front of the bulk of the theatre....which is now a parking lot.

How about the Lawndale at Rising Sun & Fanshawe? It still stands as a day care center, owned by the same person since it was closed as a theatre (of various types)

Oops! The picture didn't come through!

I'd love to see that one -- the Midway was designed by a distant uncle of mine, architect Louis Magaziner. He also designed the Uptown.

Theaters that I remember... sheesh, isn't anybody going to mention The Boyd, which I remember as the SamEric. Yes, I saw Star Wars on the big screen there. Last movie I saw there was Ghost.

I also remember the Keswick in Glenside (it's a stage now, not a movie theater), and one out in Jenkintown or that area... the Hiway? Can't recall the name of that one. It may still be there.

There was a twin at Rittenhouse Square, ridiculously long, thin theater with a scary old-fashioned elevator...

And there was a theater on 15th street or 16th street above Chestnut that always seemed to be showing martial arts films and/or blaxploitatin films. Never actually went in there, but I remember the sensationalistic titles.

Mostly I went to the one that was on Chestnut street between 15th and 16th (or was it 16th and 17th?), right next to the Ginos, which later became a Roy Rogers. Ginos and a movie, with a stop by the Spaceport arcade across the street: that was how I spent many a summer afternoon!

Default East Falls theatres

The Alden Theatre was on Midvale Avenue. It was torn down in the late 1960s/early 1970s and replaced by a Gino's Hamburgers. Today, there is a bank on that site

The Falls/Midvale Theatre closed sometime ago. The building is still there and still has the appearance of having once been a theatre. It is next to the McIlvane Funeral Home. Don't know what it is used for today.

Default Lane Theatre

Here is an early picture of the Lane Theatre. This was a "date" theatre for me in high school. Would go here then walk down to the Hot Shoppes for a bite. I saw a few movies here. The two I seem to remember are "Summer of 42" and "Ryan's Daughter". I recall in the the mid-1970s or so that they started to show X-rated films here. Short-lived and they closed around 1975 or 1976. The building is still there, now a church.

Lane Theatre (Broad Street near 65th Avenue in East Oak Lane)

i saw A Hard Day's Night at the Tyson, Because They're Young (with Dick Clark, and Michael Callan, both local Philly boys) at the Benner, and Woodstock at the Oxford. And Flower Drum Song at a theater right near Oxford Circle. The Orleans? Went every saturday. A lot of Jack Lemmon movies.

Does anyone remember the Drive In right over the Tacony Palmyra in NJ? Saw Annie Hall there, a lot of mosquitos.

I do remember that drive in! We lived closer to it (Frankford & Torresdale) that the Lincoln or the Andalusia but i can only remember going there one time, to see True Grit

Back then it was a nickel to cross the bridge and we used to go to the Pensauken Square Mart every weekend.
