Hello All.....
I finally stopped in the Tea Lounge @ 6321 Rising Sun Ave (between Robbins and Levick) today for a few brief minutes to talk to the owner and grab some butterscotch ice cream. The guy has a hell of a place...nice inside, cool temps, big screen TV...nice lounge chairs, tables, couches....and one heck of a menu. I asked the owner what his hours were and he told me that he was trying out different opening times, but in general, he is open: Monday - Thursday 1pm - 9pm. Friday and Saturday 12noon - 12midnight. He is Closed on Sunday. I asked him to POST his hours in his front window and also suggested that he put a few tables & chairs outside when he is open.....he did tell me he is adding on a deck/patio to the rear of the building with the same for customers. The guy seems like he is really intrested in making this place a go...he has a nice menu which I have a copy of but am not sure if it would be appropriate to post on here since we might start every business posting their wares on phillyblog.com, but in short: he serves Turkey Hill Ice Cream, Rootbeer floats, Banana Splits, Milk Tea, Hot and Iced Tea, Smoothies, Reg Coffee, Mochablast Coffee, Dessert and light snacks. Lets support a business that is family oriented in these days of us complaining about seeing nothing but nail & hair salons opeing up on these local Ave's. Grab Dinner at the Seaport Inn (locally owned)..cross the street and get dessert at the Tea Lounge (locally owned). Can't get any more local than that!

I will certainly spread the word to my Lawncrest friends, you should ask him about little free cup coupons to spread around to give people the incentive to come just to check it out.

Oh...I see Geno has tried Lawncrest Diner....they have good egg salad sandwiches too.
Geno, ain't that the truth!...LMAO. I understood what Mayfairchick ment...I will talk to him about it (cupons) the next time I drop in. His Menu prices range from the $1.75 mark all the way up to a whole $3.50! Gina - I think the only inconsistency right now is his opening time...which is why I kept telling him that he needs to post his hours in the front window. When you go there, if you dont see it, suggest the same. He has a flashing "OPEN" sign that is always on when they're open. The Seaport Inn is family friendly...they are a seafood resturaunt in one half of the building and a bar in the other. It's Non Smoking now, which to me was a deterrant to eating there some times. Some dishes are great others, eh. They have many other items on their menu too that are non seafood. They make a good BLT club for sure. Good Salads that John, the owner makes and some good Rice Pudding, and Apple Pie with Ice Cream (favorite)....oops!...two places to get dessert....damn. Gloria, the normal waitress, will tell you whats good each day.....yes, I know her too....and the owners John & Kathy well. ![]()

I actually stumbled upon this thread as I was searching for restaurants in Northeast Philly. Search Engines, that lead you in the side door, amaze me.
Why did I feel compelled to make this my first post? It was the mention of the Seaport Inn. My boyfriend and I go out to eat every Saturday night, prefering to dine at "non-chain" establishments. We have yet to find one, in the Northeast, that suits our wishes: clean, good food, reasonably priced, friendly but not pushy. We always have to travel outside the boundaries of the neighborhoods we call 'home'. If we are in the extremely rare mood for tavern food, then Northeast Philly is an oasis. I have known about the Seaport Inn for a very long time, having once lived in Lawncrest. It is NOT clean (undesirable creatures have been spotted there). The food is 'okay', at best. The prices are too high for the quality. So this newbie does not recommend it. Can anyone kindle my faith by suggesting an eating establishment? Thanks for your attention to a tenderfoot's post.

I know of an excellent place on the west coast of Florida run by a couple of older sisters in their home.......does that help?
I & my family have been eating at the Seaport for no less than 10 years (My grandparents used to eat there all the time when it was the Dutch Inn, which is going back over 20 years ago)...generally, once a week. I have never spotted a "creature" in there...and even if you did, it's no different than spotting one at an UpScale Resturaunt. I have had bugs crawl on me at a nice retsturaunt in Jenkintown (now closed) and remember seeing them in Pippo's many times, and that place was always packed with people. Where there is food, there will be creatures....it's just how well they're taken care of. Now, if I was seeing them on a regular basis at the Seaport, I would certainly not reccommend the place and also I would have a few words with the owner. Again, in no less than 10 years of eating there, I have never had such an experience. Say, I spotted a bug in my house here the other day...does that make my house unlivable? I sprayed for them! As far as the food price vrs quality...I can understand some dishes...but, they are few. I even said that in my last post. I find his prices to be reasonable and what you get is filling. If you want to stuff your face till your can't get out of the booth, you need to go to an "all u can eat" type place. Let me know what you find in the way of establishments that suit your tastes.
