Another NY investor owned property? No suprise there.

Does anyone know the status of the legislation and policys that were supposed to be put into effect by Mike McGeehan and Joan Krajewski?
Weren't they supposed to be cracking down on these out-of-town investors?
Just more political jawing, I guess. Tell 'em what they want to hear.

I see Joan Krajewski decided to run again this year. I guess that's good.
It would be nice to see someone with some b*lls tackle this problem though.

Smile it's was all election talk

I work on the board of the Tacony Civic, and I write letter and letter to these investors, we have entire blocks in our neighborhood owned by investors. I recently sent a letter to Councilman O'Neill, as he is re-vamping the zoning. Since the city treats rentals as a business, I want them to limit the amount of business that can be run, in R-9 zoning, which is residential. I want landlord licenese to have a point system and a clear process to have them removed. I want them to raise property taxes, to make it less profitable for investors to come into my neighborhood, I know that's generally not a good thing as people do not want higher taxes but it's the only tax that would be good to help reduce the amount of rentals and we could use the extra revenue for more police in the 15th district.

I have not seen any legislation on how to solve this crises, and no election time promises have been delivered.

The CD store on the corner of Bridge and Torresale is gone, so is Ricky's Pizza and that steak/pizza shop near the Wawa on Harbison.

I moved out at the right time. I recently read in the Philadelphia Inquirer that the 15th police district saw the largest increase in violent crime.

It's ashame that once great Philly neighborhoods are being ruined by this trash.
the democrats are moving in because we let it happen...

My renting neighbors pay about $850 for their house. They have an abandoned, leaking car, oil cans, an old tire, dog dirt and assorted other junk in the backyard. Maybe I am misunderstanding you, but are you suggesting that I am one of the people allowing this to happen?
Red,

Im sure you can call CLIP on them because of the yard and as far as the auto....goto the Philly PD website to report it or call your local district....I did and had a car moved off my street last week.

Okay, not all Section 8's are trash, but a majority ARE. What would you do if you were a working person and couldn't get to sleep at night because of idiots making noise at all hours.

And the violent crime and killing did not start until those people started moving in.

The crime and killing almost never does start until the vermin gets in the neighborhoods and brings it with them.....

What I find funny is that Philly Blog has paid advertisments between our posts for a book called the "Section 8 Bible"!!

OK Cammie
I will look up the zoning law revisions being considered and write my council people. It is the least I can do. I am so sick of free range trash and low lifes. Hallwatch is a good site for reference if anyone else is inclined. Not all rentals are a nightmare yet; it is still a relatively new turn of events here in Tacony. And we have had 2 on the street who were evicted...the neighbors called the landlord all of the time..but the icing on the cake was when DHS was informed 2 children of school age did not attend, and the "parents" could not substantiate they were being home schooled. And it was a stoke of luck that DHS came when the next crack supply had several people going in and out.
Both were flop houses . Ultimately the electric and water and gas were turned off and all we saw was flashlights and candlelight. It took them 6 months to evict those people.

Default Percentages

I know not all rentals are bad, but when you have less than 10% home owner ship in any one area you have a big problem. That' why you need to have some limits on it and effective police.

It's really important to a community to have homeowners.

You took the words right outof my mouth, he was such a good boy always well mannered, thats why he was out at 12:30 with a shotgun terrorizing the neighborhood.....I wish the cops would shoot a few more like him.

10% home ownership....a big part of the problem.....no pride in ownership. If you actually have to work for something, most likely you will take care of it and want it to look nice. Attitude is "Why take care of it, it isn't mine? Who cares what it looks like?" Same is true when you are GIVEN something for free and not made to work for it. Not true in all cases, but look around.
