Question Philadelphia Housing Authority banners along Oxford ... why?

Anyone driving along Oxford notice that they put up big bright purple banners on a bunch of utility poles that say "Philadelphia Housing Authority: Building Beyond Expectations" ...? Why do those need to be there? So I can be reminded every day that I live in the ghetto? Why not spend some money on a little paint and a decent gardener?

I don't know much about the PHA but just from driving by their properties I think their motto should be changed to something a little less dramatic.

Advertising their failures for all to celebrate?!?! Sounds like they're taking their cue from the top floor...

Let us all now line up along Oxford Avenue and hold hands as we celebrate an abused program of public housing. Let us also hang signs that read "ACCESS CARDS" and "FOOD STAMPS". And other programs that are meant for good AND many deserving families use these city programs but the majority abuse. "If the City will give me all this stuff for not working...... what incentive do I have to work".. could that possibly be the mindset of recipients of our city's programs like these??

Let's fly the flag and celebrate! I'll be serving hot tea and cup cakes at Langdon street....

Scratch that- I just got robbed of my cupcakes.

That's so when you get you bike stolen you can tell the cops..

"I saw them headed towards those new signs on Oxford Ave"

I lived down by there as a kid.

Oxford Village or "the Vil" was responsible for all of the vandalism in the area.

It also was one of the reasons the public schools in the immediate area (Cornell and Fels) were such dumps.

Bad School + Projects + removal of massive Sears facilty = current Summerdale.

Great pictures! I used to work at the Sears building in the warehouse in high school.
I remember you could buy really good soft pretzels on the 1st floor of the retail store near the parking lot.
The implosion nearly rocked me out of bed that morning. Very sad to see it go.

This is the City's way of reminding you of "Who's running the City"

It doesn't matter if the sign is a lie.

They lie all of the time and no one seems to be able to do anything about it.
