I attended last night's meeting as a facilitator. We had a really great turnout with people coming from throughout the Lower Northeast including Frankford, Mayfair, Castor Gardens, Fox Chase, and Tacony to name a few.
A lot of concerns were expressed about Burholme Park, existing park and trail maintenance, the preservation of existing historic sites (especially in Frankford’s parks and cemeteries), understaffing of recreation facilities, and underfunding of Fairmount Park. There were plenty of great ideas expressed too. Ideas included returning the mounted police patrol to the parks, improving public access to the Delaware River along the Pennypack and Tacony/Frankford Creeks, creating an Office of Open Space, bringing community farms to the neighborhoods, and improving streetscapes along commercial corridors. If you haven’t already, please fill out the survey: http://www.greenplanphiladelphia.com/node/443 And if you have ideas specific to the Lower Northeast please post them here so that your thoughts can collected and become part of GreenPlan Philadelphia: http://www.greenplanphiladelphia.com/area/pask/pha se/2 |

Green Plan..What kind of green are we talking about ? Putting green stuff in the pockets of our wonderful Mayor and his friends.?
With the way he is letting every square inch of open ground be developed TAX FREE. it will not be long before Philly is like New York City , wall to wall cement and brick. As far as keeping what green areas we have now what would be worng with just doing NOTHING. I hear they want to " DEVELOPE" Benj. Rush park . It has been a wonderful wild area for a long long time . Now they want to put in blacktop trails and buildings that will only be targets for vandals. I remember Eden Hall before it was " IMPROVED" . There were nice open fields there that you could walk on or picknic on. You could take your dog there and play fetch. Then it got improved with bike trails and a big parking lot and the place got trashed every day by kids drinking beer and then they burned down the old church . Now you cant play fetch with youre dog if you want to or you get a ticket . Walking there is a mess with all the broken beer bottles and trash . I find it funny that you get a ticket for playing with youre dog but the beer partys and vandalism go on unobstructed . ARRGGGG Sorry about the venting but I just cringe when I hear that people want to develope things , some stuff is better just left alone like green stuff. It will be ok all by its self.
